Francesca practises in both private and public law Children Act
and inherent jurisdiction Wardship cases where there are
profoundly serious allegations against parents, carers and Local
Authorities. She specialised in criminal law for 10 years before
joining the family bar. She is recognised in the Legal 500 as2015 "An outstanding barrister." Tier 1 New Silk 2014 as a
leading junior in the field of Children law "An extremely bright
junior, with excellent cross-examination skills." Francesca took
silk at 19 years call. Francesca is ordinarily instructed at High
Court and Appellate level but undertakes cases in every tier of
court if needed. A large part of her work involves cases where
there is a need for fact-finding (or legal argument around the
need for fact-finding) and consequential applications and
consequences between the criminal and family jurisdictions. She
accepts instructions via direct access in both private and public
law cases.
She is regularly instructed in cases where criminal proceedings
are pending or have resulted in acquittals or a lack of final
prosecution and where further more wide-ranging findings may
be made in the family court. In particular she specialises in cases
where clients or other parties have been accused of rape,
attempted murder, sexual abuse or serious violence often with
little foundation and are alienated from their families and require
urgent vindication.
She also undertakes very many cases where an opposing party
may have profound and as yet undiagnosed personality
difficulties. Her recent case load has involved very serious cases
of parental alienation and recruitment of children against a parent
by care givers subsequently found to have real and enduring
personality problems and mental health difficulties which have led
them to alienate their children.
Francesca's case-load also deals with very serious
non-accidental injuries to children. She is very regularly instructed
in the most complex medico legal cases, with particular expertise
in brain injuries including but not limited to shaken baby
syndrome. She regularly deals with children who have suffered
skull and bodily fractures and bruising and has a particular
interest in underlying bone and blood and genetic disorders.
(Vitamin D, Rickets, Osteogenesis Imperfecta, Von Willebrands,
Haemorrahgic disease). She is regularly instructed in cases
