Professional negligence Christopher's practice has for many years encompassed substantial professional negligence disputes. He acts and advises in litigation concerning a wide range of professions, in particular disputes involving accountants, auditors, insurance brokers, actuaries, lawyers and valuers. He usually but not invariably acts for the professional on the instructions of their insurer. Commercial litigation and arbitration Christopher advises and acts in relation to a wide variety of commercial agreements. His work includes every aspects of contract law including contractual interpretation, implied terms, exclusion clauses, repudiation, misrepresentation and fraud, damages and foreign law. He has particular experience of disputes in relation to share sale agreements. He maintains a significant practice in international commercial arbitrations. Insurance and reinsurance Christopher has extensive experience of all types of disputes relating to insurance law. He regularly advises and appears for and against insurers and re-insurers in contractual disputes over treaty wordings and policy interpretation. He has represented insurers in their dealings with the Financial Ombudsman Service. He has been involved in litigation relating to the response of employers’ liability wordings to long tail asbestos disease liabilities. Gaming and Lotteries law Christopher has advised and represented the Industry Regulator, formerly the Gaming Board for Great Britain and now the Gambling Commission, for many years in relation to casino licensing, internet gaming, the laws of lotteries, and gaming machines. In recent years he has also advised and represented casino operators, gaming machine manufacturers and internet gambling businesses in the UK and overseas. Arbitration and Mediation Christopher has extensive experience of arbitration as an advocate in the UK and overseas and as an arbitrator. Recent appointments as arbitrator include acting as a party appointed arbitrator in an HKIAC arbitration under Uncitral Rules in relation to a joint venture in the PRC between a US corporation and a Chinese company; appointment by the HKIAC as Chairman of a tribunal dealing with a shipbuilding dispute in China; acting as party appointed arbitrator in an LCIA arbitration relating to a dispute between Indian entities about investments in Mauritius; and acting as a party appointed arbitrator in an ICC arbitration arising out of an agreement between French, Norwegian/British and Swedish Companies relating to the research and development and subsequent marketing of a gas turbine engine.
