What we are doing

Fletcher Construction will be the delivery team (as part of the Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure
Rebuild Team) that will undertake the construction work to the earthquake damaged Hereford Street
bridge.

The work to repair and reinstate the earthquake damage bridge is scheduled to commence in the
week beginning Monday 2 November 2015. Due to the nature of the work the overall project is
expected to take three months to complete.

All of our work is subject to favourable weather and on-site conditions. With this in mind we ask that
you please be aware that timeframes may change.

Our usual hours of work are 7.00 am to 6.00 pm, Monday to Friday, with weekend work if required.
Safety is our number one priority. Safety is your responsibility too. Stay clear and stay alert – keep
children and pets at a safe distance. Keep your vehicle safe by locking it and removing any valuable items.
Stages of work

To carry out the work efficiently it is necessary for us to establish a temporary site office, this will be
on Colombo Street. The main purpose of the site office is to provide for the health and wellbeing of
our workers. The site office will be used as a place to have breaks, meetings and storage of on-site
materials.

We will then set up traffic management around the worksite. As such, you will see a increase in road
cones, which will ensure traffic management disruptions are minimised.

We will install scaffolding under and around the bridge so that we can carry out our work safely.

We will install additional steel to strengthen the existing bridge beams.

We will then undertake concrete renewal to sections of the bridge.

Following the repairs, we will re-paint damaged and repaired sections of the bridge.

Finally we will undertake final reinstatement of the bridge.
Traffic Management
 A temporary shoulder closure will be in place on Colombo Street for the duration of the work.
 At times, footpath access will be disrupted. One side of the bridge will always be open for pedestrian
use. Please follow our signs.
 Water access will also be disrupted, however we will maintain access for waterway recreationalists.
The area under the bridge will be reduced during repair work, Please pass under the bridge with care.
 Please be on the lookout for changed traffic conditions and please follow our traffic signs.

What will the bridge look like once
repaired?
SCIRT is repairing bridges to their pre-earthquake
levels of service. Modern materials and construction
methods will be used to improve the resilience of
the bridge. Where we do replace sections of the
bridge they will be of similar design. Visually the
appearance will not vary greatly.
