Christy Lai F.4A My Favourite Character in the World of Narnia “Santa Claus is coming to town…” Beautiful Christmas songs are circulating the whole world with the happy mood of everyone. Looking through the windows, Christmas stockings are hung around everywhere. Children are craving and looking forward to their presents. They jot down all their wants on a piece of paper in case Santa Claus is too busy to remember them all. Everyone has the image of Santa Claus in their minds. Hairy and snowy beard of Father Christmas reminds me the hair of Aslan, the great lion in Narnia. Aslan is not an ordinary lion which chases after little animals brutishly, but the greatest hero of Narnia, a place that was originally under the control of the devil White Witch. However, with the enthusiastic support of Aslan’s followers and the determination in his heart, he managed to defeat the White Witch with the four young characters (Peter, Susan, Edmund, Lucy) who he met at his headquarters, the Stone Table. His bravery indeed paved the way for his revolution against the spell of the White Witch, which was to make Narnia have no Christmas and warm weather. In addition, the absolutism to her disgrace rules also made creatures in Narnia suffer. Yet, Aslan did not accept the subhuman rules cowardly. Instead, he planned a very perfect objective to rescue Narnia. Together with his followers, he managed to rescue the creatures that were cursed to be stone statues. Moreover, he defeated the White Witch and brought Narnia back to life. Everyone is living happily in a warm weather ever after. Apart from his bravery, he also sacrificed himself to save the greedy brat, Edmund who betrayed his siblings in order to have more Turkish Delight and marshmallows. Aslan was so selfless that he forgave Edmund. At the same time, he did not care about death in order to save others. Fortunately, Aslan has risen from the dead. Other than the mentioned achievements above, Aslan was so generous that even though he was the one who mainly defeated the White Witch, he shared the glory with the four children and he even let them rule Narnia. His holy figure gives us the impression of a Savior of Narnia. He left the victory to the young generation and disappeared subsequently. No one knows where he has gone but I can guarantee that he must be helping someone, maybe the one who is writing about him!
