HONR 2000: Ancient Legacies Professor Laura Guerrero Fall 2016 The main purpose of this course is to give students the opportunity to study selected great works in the history of ideas from an interdisciplinary perspective. This course will examine ancient thought through texts from a variety of ancient traditions from around the globe, including ancient Greek, Indian, and Chinese traditions. In addition to engaging students with these different traditions of thought, another main goal of the course is to develop strong critical thinking, writing, and rhetorical skills. In order to foster these skills the course will be conducted in a seminar style where students will be encouraged and expected to participate actively in in-class discussions and then use those discussions to develop their thinking in writing.
