Common Core in the Classroom Streaming Library Model Lessons » Model lessons provide examples of how to integrate complex text and mathematical practices in the classroom, and demonstrate rigorous instructional practices designed to meet the Common Core State Standards and promote 21st century skills. -­‐
Model Lessons provide educators with specific examples of how to effectively integrate digital media while addressing the Common Core State Standards for ELA and Math. Each lesson is intended to serve as an instructional exemplar and comprises 3-­‐5 days of instruction. -­‐
Lessons are broken up into multiple sessions. Each session includes a Session Overview, CCSS Standards, Essential Questions, Tasks, Teacher Preparation, and an Instructional Procedure Chart with time estimates. The lessons include modeling, small group work, full class activities, and independent work to scaffold instruction. -­‐ Lessons are searchable under asset type “Lesson Plan”. -­‐ Discovery Education Streaming Plus contains over 150 reading passages, including 120 that were added to support the Common Core in the Classroom model lessons. Reading passages include both literary and informational texts, many of them drawn from Appendix B of the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts & Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects. Literary texts include works by Aesop, Lewis Carroll, Beatrix Potter, Laurence Yep, Emily Dickinson, Edgar Allen Poe, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Walt Whitman, Homer, and Shakespeare among others. Informational texts, including articles, biographies, and primary sources, address a broad range of ELA, Social Studies, and Science topics. Text complexity was assessed using the three-­‐part model outlined in Appendix A of the CCSS.
