issues that arise when working with older
persons, their families and caregivers.
As the Core Program in the EMTP, this
course provides an intensive introduction to
the fundamental knowledge base essential to
the practice of mediation and facilitation with
this population. Through interactive learning,
participants will learn how this knowledge

for practicing mediators, mediators in the
accreditation process, and facilitators with

Advanced Elder Mediation
This interactive three-day program (24 hours) is
designed to immerse participants in the practice
of Elder Mediation*.
WHERE:

December 5th, December 6th, and December 7th, 2012
COST:
$1,200.00 plus HST ($1,356.00)

Two mediation models, PRREP™ and Elder
Family Conferencing™ will serve as templates for
skill-building, and participants will engage in
discussions, demonstrations and exercises that
will help them organize, prepare and implement
the elder mediation process.
Our role plays will be an exciting part of the
program. The ROLE PLAYERS, seasoned actors
knowledgeable about mediation and trained to
embody real-life scenarios will bring our skillbuilding alive. Interview skills at all stages of the
process will be a primary focus.

*Prerequisites: This program will not certify participants as an elder mediator, but is meant as an advanced training course for
those who have completed the EMTP’s Introductory Course™. Equivalencies include participants with basic medication training
and experience, and mediators in the accreditation process, as well as facilitators with backgrounds in gerontology, social work,
nursing, counselling, education and law. Prerequisites beyond the EMTP™ course will be discussed with the Program Director.

Elder Mediation Training Program [EMTP]
Internship Program
The Internship Program is designed to provide
practitioners with direct experience with the
older client, their families, and the organizations
serving them. Under the guidance and direction
of a supervisor, this third course in the EMTP™
series puts the practitioner “in the room” to
observe, interview, and progress to facilitate
discussions as a co-mediator/facilitator and sole
mediator/facilitator.
This twenty-hour Program includes individual
and group supervision. An intern’s progress will
be reviewed on a regular basis by the Program’s
Supervisors and Director; self-evaluations are
also part of the Program.
