Irwins supply the most extensive collection of Dry Dash finishes in
Ireland. We have carefully selected a range of coloured marbles,
granites and quartz chippings and natural pebbles which can
be combined with our naturally coloured sands to provide a
variety of finishes.
What is a Dry Dash Render?
What are the advantages of Dry Dash?
Dry Dash render is a traditional render application used extensively
throughout the UK and Ireland. To achieve this finish the dash is
applied onto a butter coat instead of mixed through it as would be
done with slap/wet dash. The butter coat goes onto a standard sand
and cement scratch coat. The butter coat should consist of 1 part
cement to 4 parts sand. The desired colour of the butter coat will
dictate whether white or grey cement is used, a variety of coloured
sands can also be used. A straightedge should be drawn over the
face to obtain a regular surface. While the mortar is still soft the
desired dash aggregate should be thrown onto the surface. Great
care should be taken to ensure an even spread and therefore a
uniform appearance. The dash aggregate may be lightly tamped
into the butter coat to ensure a good bond is obtained.
You can achieve a wide range of coloured finishes by using different
mixes of sands, cements and aggregates. Dry Dash is also easy to
apply and cost effective. The ultimate finish will be long lasting and
low maintenance and will not change or fade as all elements are
naturally coloured.
Our finishes can be seen all over the country on large detached
houses, new developments, restyled/restored older houses, local
authority housing, on shops/factories, apartments and office blocks.
Different colours of dry dash can be used in developments to achieve
variety and can also be used to break up large buildings with long
elevations. The soft natural colours of our dry dash range look great
on their own but also blend beautifully with natural stone and brick
products.
The coverage of this type of finish can only be estimated as the size
and type of aggregates used is important. As a guide we would
recommend that it would take 12kgs of aggregate per m² and 14kgs
of sand per m².
All dry dash products sold by Irwins are pre-washed and available
in tonne bags and 25kg bags. The aggregates used are naturally
occurring minerals that could have colour variations. At Irwins, care
is taken to reduce any colour inconsistencies although no company
can guarantee this. It is important to ensure that aggregates used
are from the same batch to reduce any potential colour matching
issues. No aggregate should be applied directly from the bag that
it was supplied in. Any fines contained in the bag will usually fall
towards the bottom of the bag and this can cause patching when
applied where an area with a higher percentage of fines will differ
in texture, colour and finish to an area dashed with aggregates
containing little or no fines.

Silver Granite
Silver Granite will produce a solid light grey finish. It is a much more consistent
colour than slap dash. The natural mica in the stone provides a reflective sparkle
in direct sunlight. Many people team this dash with our own Granite Sand as this
adds additional sparkle and life to the overall finish. Alternatively it can be used
with B1 Sand. Grey cement is used with this dash.
Black Granite
Black Granite dash consists of small sharp chips.
It provides a darker finish than Silver Granite and
achieves a more consistent colour than slap dash.
It can be used with Granite Sand or B1 Sand and
Grey Cement.
Pearl Grey Marble
Pearl Grey Marble consists of blue/grey coloured chips. It can be used with a combination of
different sands and cement to alter the tone of the finish. Most commonly it is used with Irwins
Granite Sand and Grey Cement, however it can be used with combinations of B1 Sand, Silver
Sand and Grey or White Cement.

Beige Marble
Beige Marble is a very popular finish and is a pale cream colour. It can
be used with either Y2 or Y3 Sand depending on how intense you want
the colour. Either sand would be combined with White Cement.
Amber Marble
Amber Marble finish is a light golden colour. It can be teamed with either Y2
or Y3 Sand and White Cement.
Yellow Marble
This dash is a small rounded stone that is a
pale yellow/golden colour. It can be used with
Y2 or Y3 Sand and White Cement.

Honey Quartz
Honey Quartz is an attractive render. It is a small sharp chip that is a deep
golden colour. It is used with Y2 or Y3 Sand and White Cement to achieve
varying shades of finish.
Saffron Quartz
Saffron Quartz is a small dash with pale cream and peachy tone stones. It is
teamed with either Y2 or Y3 Sand and White Cement to provide a very attractive
finish for any house. It blends in beautifully with sandstone.
New Forest Flint
New Forest Flint is a very popular render. It consists
of small pebbles of gold, brown, cream and black
colours. It can be used with Y2 or Y3 Sand and
White Cement or B1 Sand and Grey Cement.
Kerry Gold
Kerry Gold is a beautiful rounded pebble. It
consists of grey, plum and golden colours. It
can be used with Y2 or Y3 Sand and White
Cement or B1 Sand and Grey Cement.

Achill
Quartz
Achill Quartz is a small sharp chip. It is almost
translucent grey in colour and is highlighted by
rustic tones. This dash is used with Y3 Sand
and White Cement.
Norwegian Quartz
Norwegian Quartz is a mixture of large dash stones. It
consists of white, peach and grey tones and is used with
Silver Sand and White Cement.
Lakeland Cream
This is a sand stone coloured chip. It can be
used with Y2 or Y3 Sand and White Cement.
Carlingford Mix
This is a mixture of White Marble and brown
and red chips. It is used with Silver Sand and
White Cement.
White
Marble
Irwins White Marble is available in 6mm or
10mm chips. It is used with Silver Sand and
White Cement.

Smooth Renders
Irwins supply a smooth render finish. This is available in up to 18 various colours.
It is a high quality, low maintenance finish for any house. The render is pre-mixed
and contains dried sand, cement, lime, additives and pigments. All constituent
materials comply with the relevant and current European Standards. The render
can be both spray and hand applied.
Walling
We supply a range of natural stone walling and cladding walling which can be

Natural Stone Paving
