POSITION PURPOSE:
To learn the skills to be a Journeyman Lineman.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•
Assist in the construction of new overhead and underground services and service upgrades
(Single-phase; three-phase; double-circuit, energized or de-energized.).
•
Assist linemen in restoring overhead and underground outages.
•
Assist linemen in solving power quality issues.
•
Assist linemen in maintaining existing overhead and underground line.
•
Assist linemen in performing line patrol.
•
Responsible for following all cooperative safety policies and procedures.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•
Dig pole and anchor holes; frame and set poles and anchors; install guy wire, sag and tie-in
conductors.
•
Assist with installation of transformers, switches, voltage regulators, oil circuit-reclosers,
capacitors, meters, and other electrical apparatus.
•
Assist with yard-light and street-light maintenance and installation.
•
Install service. Connect, disconnect, and reconnect as assigned.
•
Assist with relocating, rebuilding, and adding poles on existing lines for state and county road
construction.
•
Assist with cutting in double-end for two-way feeds and replacing lightning arresters and guys, on
energized or de-energized lines.
•
Install account numbers on meter poles, as directed.
•
Replace and repair service drops, as directed.
•
Assist with installing, repairing and replacing meter sockets and loops.
•
Read, change, install and seal meters, as assigned.
•
Perform periodic stand-by duty.
•
Observe the electric distribution-feeds and circuits in order to become familiar with the system.
•
Trim trees and cut brush on right-of-way for new construction or existing line, as assigned.
•
Complete outage reports; material tickets; connect; reconnect; or disconnect orders, as required
or directed.
•
Operate equipment as needed by the Operations Department (winch truck, bucket, etc.)
•
Complete related study units as outlined in OAEC's Lineman's Training Program.
•
Ability to utilize MySource Applications to perform daily activities.
•
Perform other work related activities as requested by supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
•
High-school diploma or equivalent preferred.
•
Courses in electricity and mechanical drawing are desirable.
•
A minimum of six months of experience with a line crew in the construction and maintenance of
electrical distribution line is desirable.
•
Must be interested in CREC's objectives and programs.
•
Must have an interest in a program of self-development and be willing to accept increasing
responsibilities as a team member of a line crew.
•
Must be willing to work overtime and to be on standby as required.
•
Must be dependable. Must have good record of attendance and punctuality.
•
Must be physically able to work in a safe and proper manner.
•
Must be able to pass required Cooperative and Department of Transportation physical
examinations and drug testing.
•
Must have a basic knowledge of electricity, pole-line materials, the proper and safe use of tools
and equipment used in line construction and maintenance, know RUS Construction Specifications,
and be familiar with the National Electric Safety Code.
•
Must be proficient in pole-top and bucket rescue procedures.
•
Should possess the ability to climb poles and exercise proper and safe use of hand-tools while
working on a pole, under strict supervision.
•
Must be CPR and First Aid certified or possess the ability to obtain such certification within one
year of employment.
•
Must have or obtain and maintain a valid Oklahoma "Class A" Drivers License with an air brake
endorsement and meet all D.O.T. requirements within six months of employment.
•
Must have basic computer skills.
•
Must become familiar with all company policies and procedures.

Internal:
•
Reports directly to Line Foreman or other crew members, as directed.
•
Supervises none.
External:
•
Members and Consumers – Some contact with consumers and the general public regarding any
problems.

This position is also required to drive company vehicle.
