ISTANBUL YOUNG STEPS ASSOCIATION
IGAD
(Istanbul Young Steps Organization) is a non-governmental organisation,
found by young people in the 4th July 2003; in order to carry issue of social responsibility to
the agenda of Turkey’s youth. Organisation also aims to instill the idea of youth in interaction
with civil society and to configure an active youth role in Turkey and Europe.
As IGAD, our first priority is; to promote participation of youth in social responsibility events,
active citizenship, and civil society - voluntarily. With contributing to the personal
development of young people, we will try to increase their participation in society on a
voluntary basis.
IGAD, with its target audience – youth - carries out activities on volunteering, social
entrepreneurship, international youth actions, and right-based studies. IGAD aims to support
the self-developement of young people by enabling youth to take active role in the society.
For this purpose, IGAD organises seminars, workshops; local, national, and international
training courses with the approach of experimental learning. IGAD, since its establishment
(2003), carried out many projects in the local, national, and international level.
Main aims and objectives of the organisation:
 To enable young people to be an active part of the society because of race, social
status, educational levels or any other disadvantage,
 To provide necessary skills and knowledge to young people to improve themselves
as active citizens in the society,
 To enable young people to be aware of multicultural dimension, intercultural learning,
and promote tolerance among them of different culture,
 To raise the awareness of multicultural dialogue, mutual understanding and youth
power in peace making process
 To promote anti-racism and enable young people to work actively on the subject
 To work related to protection of the environment and sustainability,
 To mobilize youngsters in order to be more familiar of different dimensions and
approaches.

What we have done so close (national level)?
“There is Problem Here” Social Entrepreneurship Project:
The Project was suported by Young idea youth programme. The Young Idea Youth
Programme was organized by Commuity Volunteers Foundation(TOG) and MasterCard.
That Project aim was support to young people to be a social entrepreneur and active citizen.
There were organized 4 days full of training with 30 youngesters. Trainers are member of
Turkish NA’s Trainers Pool. And also there is web portal for sharing communities problems.
All projects starts by problems. And everyone can share any problems on that portal. Young
participants developed their own projects end of the Project. We are going to manage 2nd
version of this Project on 2014.
“Open
Space
for
Youth”
Trans-national
Youth
Initiative
Project:
The Transnational Youth Initiative project “Open Space for Youth” is aimed at young people
in order to empower active participation and volunteering as to move the first steps as youth
workers/leaders in an active and positive way.
The main objectives will be pursued through the achievement of specific topics: active
participation; volunteering as promotion of a positive attitude and awareness towards the
different cultures; make them different in the active participation and volunteering framework.
We are organizing 4 workshop for youth and 2 workshop for youth workers and leaders
about topics of active participation and social society.
This project transnational youth initiative project; we will work "The Valkyries in Action" NGO
in Sweden. Our trans-national activities are two sided.
