Mean maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 29 C and 19 C. Social interest of the Region: AMARAVATHI: Ancient and medieval Amaravathi was the political and cultural capital of the Satavahanas, Ikshavakus, Eastern Chalukyas, Telugu Cholas, the Kota chiefs, Pallavas, Kakatiyas, the Reddy kings and the Vijayanagara empire for over 1,800 years from the 2nd century BC to the 16th century AD. Amaravathi will be the new capital for the new state of Andhra Pradesh. Machilipatnam: Also known as Masulipatnam or Bandar or Masula (in short), is a city on the southeastern or Coromandel Coast of India. Situated on one of the mouths of the river Krishna at the Bay of Bengal, Machilipatnam is the administrative center of Krishna District, has a 17th century port and is known for carpet-weaving industry; rice and oilseed growing, and manufacture of scientific instruments. KANAKADURGA TEMPLE: is a famous hindu temple of Goddess Kanaka Durga, located on the Indrakeeladri hill on the banks of Krishna river in Vijayawada. Ancient scriptures described the deity as Swayambhu, (self-manifested) in Triteeyakalpa. Contact Information: Prof. D.V. This program is meant for young faculty, researchers and senior students to create perception on recent advancements; provide state-of-art training and mentor and motivate them for pursuing their career in meteorology and contribute to Indian scientific research. The participants will have class room lectures from subject experts and will be exposed to computer based problem solving through Fortran programming and shell-scripts that include hands-on training in high performance computing, data analysis, and visualization. Participants will be encouraged to prepare Fortran programs and execute them on computer workstations and will be exposed to work with KLUHigh Performance Computational facility (HPC). The faculty for the course will be eminent scientists/ teachers drawn from various scientific research/ educational institutes. Eligibility: M.Sc. (completed) and M. Tech. (Final semester) students, Ph.D. Students, and young faculty in Meteorology/ Oceanography/ Physics/Atmospheric Science/ Computer Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics; B.E./ B.Tech. (Completed students) in Computer Science/ Civil Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering. Desirable: Knowledge of computer programming and UNIX/LINUX operating systems. How to Apply: Intended participants should fill up and submit the application online at the website (http://www.kluniversity.in/SERBSchool) along with uploading a forwarding letter and a photograph or send duly filled application (Annexure) as a scanned copy along digital photograph through email to dvbrao@kluniversity.in Participants: Boarding and Lodging: The number of participants will be around 30. The targeted participants are senior Master degree students, active researchers, young scientists from national institutions and young faculty from Universities. Free boarding and shared accommodation will be provided to the participants. Travelling Allowance: Curriculum: Selected candidates, attending the entire course, will be paid TA and DA as per rules. TA will be limited to 3AC sleeper class train fare (bus fare between the places not connected by train or where timings are inconvenient) plus local auto-fare en route to reach the venue of the school. The lectures will focus on providing knowledge-skill with currently used weather models, visualization tools, and high performance computing. Participants are expected to improve their proficiency in analysing various disparate sources of data (e.g., remotely sensed satellite products, in situ observations, model simulations, climate data) and running weather prediction models. Knowledge dissemination will include basics of atmospheric physics, atmospheric dynamics, numerical methods that would form basis for atmospheric modeling and computer software concerning visualization such as GrADS (Grid Analysis and Display System) and CDO (Climate Data Operators). Participants are expected to improve their knowledge such that they will be better equipped to work either in government organizations such as IMD, NCMRWF, INCOIS, ISRO or research institutions such as IITM, IITs and Universities and private industries that require expertise in atmospheric modeling, weather and climate applications, high performance science computation and/or sophisticated data analysis and visualization.
