What is Garden Secure Cover?
Garden Secure Cover protects Your fences, gates, hedges, lawns, patios, ponds, rockeries and
walls that are kept within the boundaries of Your Home, subject to certain conditions. The most
You can claim for under this cover during Your Period of Insurance is £750.
Garden Secure provides cover for loss or damage caused by:
1.
Storm, Flood and Fire;
2.
Lightning or explosion;
3.
Theft (trees and plants are only covered for Theft);
4.
Television aerials, masonry, satellite dishes and tiles falling from the building;
5.
Malicious and accidental damage caused by any other person other than You or Your
Immediate Family;
6.
Branches falling from trees;
7.
Wild animals.

This Policy is sold by Virgin Money Home Insurance which is promoted and arranged by Virgin
Money Personal Financial Service Ltd and arranged and administered by Ageas Retail Limited.
It is underwritten by UK General Insurance Limited on behalf of Ageas Insurance Limited. Registered

Definitions
Where the following words appear in Bold and with a Capital Letter, they have the following
meaning:

Broker
Virgin Money Home Insurance, Prospect House, Gordon Banks Drive,
Trentham Lakes North, Stoke-on-Trent, ST4 4TW.
Excess
The first £50 which You are required to pay for each and every incident
which results in a claim.
Home
The house, bungalow, flat or maisonette shown in Your Policy.
Immediate Family
Your husband, wife, civil partner, partner, children or parents, who
permanently live in Your Home.

Insured Items(s)
Fences, gates, hedges, lawns, patios, ponds, rockeries and walls that
You own and are kept within the boundaries of Your Home.
Period of Insurance This cover will run alongside Your household insurance policy. If that
policy is cancelled or not renewed, all cover under Your Garden Secure
Cover will end.
Policy Start Date
The date shown in Your Policy or the date of purchase if You have
taken this policy out afterwards.
Policy
The documents consisting of Your policy wording and Your Home
Insurance inception pack or confirmation letter if You have taken this
insurance out afterwards.
Sum Insured
£750 being the maximum amount payable by us in respect of all claims
during the Period of Insurance.
Terrorism
Any act including but not limited to the use, or threat, of violence or force
by any person or organisation involving, causing or threatening harm or
putting the public or any section of the public in fear if it is likely that the
purpose is of a political, religious, ideological (of an intellectual or rational
nature) or similar nature.
Theft
The unlawful taking of an Insured Item against Your will by another
party, with the intent to permanently deprive You of that property.
UK
Means England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
We/Us/Our/Insurer UK General Limited on behalf of Ageas Insurance Limited.
You/Your
The insurance holder named in the schedule.
What is covered
In return for the payment of Your premium, We will provide the insurance cover detailed in this
Policy, subject to the terms, conditions and limitations shown below or as amended in writing by
Us, during the Period of Insurance.
Insurance is provided on fences, gates, hedges, lawns, patios, ponds, rockeries & walls that You
own and are kept within the boundaries of Your Home.
Loss or damage to Insured Items caused by:
1.
Storm;
2.
Flood;
3.
Lightning or explosion;
4.
Theft*;
5.
Fire;
6.
Television aerials, masonry, satellite dishes and tiles falling from the building;
7.
Malicious damage caused by any other person other than You or Your Immediate Family;
8.
Accidental damage caused by any other person other than You or Your Immediate Family;
9.
Branches falling from trees;
10. Wild animals.
*Please Note: Trees and plants that You own and are kept within the boundaries of Your Home
are only covered for Theft.

What is not covered
We will not pay any claims resulting from:
1.
Loss or damage to trees or plants not caused by Theft;
2.
Damage caused by domestic animals, birds or pets;
3.
Damage caused by frost;
4.
Damage caused by subsidence, landslip or heave;
5.
Damage caused by light or atmospheric conditions;
6.
Damage caused by climatic conditions;
7.
Damage caused by insects or vermin;
8.
Damage caused by rot, mildew, fungus or poisoning;
9.
Property being confiscated or destroyed by any government, public or local authority;
10. Liability of any kind;
11. Loss or damage to fish/other creatures/animals;
12. Loss or damage caused in connection with Your trade or business profession;
13. Any items covered by any other insurance.
General Conditions
1.
You will need to pay the Excess amount for each and every claim.
2.
We will not pay more than the maximum benefit detailed on Your Policy for any claim or
series of claims arising from any one event or one source or original cause;
3.
The most We will pay for all claims in the Period of Insurance is £750.
Cancelling your policy
If You decide that for any reason, this policy does not meet Your insurance needs then please
call Virgin Money Home Insurnace on 0330 303 1123* within 14 days from the day of purchase
or the day on which You receive Your policy documentation, whichever is the later. On the
condition that no claims have been made or are pending, We will then refund Your premium in
full.
If You wish to cancel Your insurance after 14 days You will be entitled to a pro-rata return of
premium provided no claims have been made.
The Insurer shall not be bound to accept renewal of any insurance and may at any time cancel
any insurance policy by giving 14 days notice in writing where there is a valid reason for doing
so. A cancellation letter will be sent to You. Valid reasons may include but are not limited to:
a) Fraud
b) Non-payment of premium
c)
Threatening or abusive behaviour
d) Non-compliance with Policy terms and conditions
Provided the premium has been paid in full, You will be entitled to a proportionate rebate of
premium in respect of the unexpired period showing on the insurance provided no claims have
been made.
Where Your household insurance Policy is cancelled, this Garden Secure Cover shall also be
cancelled.
Consumer Insurance Act
You are required by the provisions of the Consumer Insurance (Disclosure and Representations)
Act to take care to:
1.

Supply accurate and complete answers to all the questions We may ask as part of Your
application for cover under the Policy;

2.
Make sure that all information supplied as part of Your application for cover is true and
correct;
3.
Tell Us of any changes to the answers You have given as soon as possible.
Failure to provide answers in-line with the requirement of the Act may mean that Your insurance
is invalid and that it does not operate in the event of a claim.

Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS)
Ageas Insurance Limited is covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). You
may be entitled to compensation from the scheme, if Ageas Insurance Limited cannot meet their
obligations. This depends on the type of business and the circumstances of the claim. Most
insurance contracts are covered for 90% of the claim with no upper limit. You can get more
information about compensation arrangements from the FSCS or visit www.fscs.org.uk.
Governing Law
Unless some other law is agreed in writing, this Policy is governed by English law. If there is a
dispute, it will only be dealt with in the courts of England or of the country within the United
Kingdom in which Your main residence is situated.
Data Protection Act 1998
Please note that any information provided to Us will be processed by Us and Our agents in
compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998, for the purpose of providing insurance and handling
claims, if any, which may necessitate providing such information to third parties. We may also
send Your information in confidence for processing to other companies acting on their instructions
including those located outside the European Economic Area.
