TRADITIONS TRAINING, LLC. “COMBAT READY” FIREFIGHTING FIREGROUND PROVEN TIPS, TECHNIQUES & DRILLS Alternate Tower Ladder Setups When operating a tower ladder it can be advantageous in several scenarios to be able to place the bucket on the ground off the side or the rear. Scenarios may include master stream application, victim rescue, etc. Each apparatus varies in it's configuration an specification, however it is not uncommon for the "to ground" distance to be 60 or more feet from the apparatus. This can be a prohibitive distance depending on what surrounds the spot where you position. By adjusting (tilting) the outriggers to the side or rear, this distance can be significantly reduced - often by 20 or more feet. Always operate within the recommendations of the apparatus manufacturer, but most apparatus can be tilted 5 or more degrees and still stay in the green zone for full operation. -What is your tower's "to ground" distance off the side and rear with stock setup. -How much can you tilt your apparatus and maintain full operation, and how does that change your "to ground" distance?
