Your A-Z of using MyUni
About MyUni
 MyUni is the University of Adelaide’s online learning portal
 It is used for a wide range of learning purposes including:
o
Course information
o
Announcements
o
Lecture recordings
o
Lecture notes/slides
o
Online discussion (Discussion Boards, Blogs, Journals, Wikis)
o
Submitting assignments
o
Taking online tests
o
Viewing grades
 MyUni can be accessed:
o
Direct at www.myuni.adelaide.edu.au

Through the University’s homepage www.adelaide.edu.au - click Students then MyUni
o
Through Unified www.unified.adelaide.edu.au – after logging in, see left-hand menu icons
Key Features
 The dashboard is the landing page you come to after logging in to MyUni.
 It shows a list of the Courses in which you are participating (including general University courses); a list
of the most recent Announcements from your Courses, general MyUni News, and MyUni Links to other
University portals such as Unified, Access Adelaide, and Student Mail.
 Courses on the dashboard are identified by their official Course Title. You can also display course codes
by clicking on ‘more options’ above the course list and clicking ‘Toggle Display of Course Codes’.

The global navigation is accessed by clicking on your name in the
top blue bar within MyUni and provides quick access from any page to:

MyBlackboard

MyBlackboard is accessed by clicking the Blackboard Icon in the
global navigation menu.

The overview page of MyBlackboard shows due dates of assessment (sorted by Due
Today and Due This Week), recently graded items, and recent posts in discussion
boards.

The posts page gives a summary of recent posts in discussion boards across all courses.

The updates page lists notifications for announcements and content that has been changed,
updated, or created, as well as impending due dates. Updates can be viewed across all
courses together, or by individual course.

Updates can be opened (links you to the particular course) or dismissed (removes notification
from the list).

MyGrades displays all grades for all courses in one location, but only where instructors
(course coordinator or lecturers) have entered the grades into MyUni. If your grades are not
displayed, contact your course coordinator or your tutor.

Calendar lists assessment deadlines from MyUni courses (if the instructor is using the
Calendar function). Note, it does not show timetable or other information from your student
Google calendar. This will not show exam timetable information – for this you must check
Access Adelaide.

Quicklinks is a very small icon at the top left of the window. It looks like this:
It allows you
to quickly locate any heading or section on a page and jump directly to it. For instance, in a
long list of announcements, it provides quick access to an announcement by clicking on the
announcement title.

Finding Important Information
The layout of courses is at the discretion of the individual course coordinator as the links in the left side
column are customisable. Even though course layout can be different from course to course, more often
than not, the following items will be displayed:
 Contacts – provides contact information for teaching staff, including email, phone and office location.
 Course Outline – links you to the respective course outline at www.adelaide.edu.au/course-outlines
which provides all of the core course information, including required resources, a summary of
assessments and weekly breakdown of topics. If you cannot find your course outline, contact your course
coordinator.
 Course Content – where you will typically find lecture recordings, slides, readings and seminar
information, as well as any other relevant material. Sometimes lecture recordings are uploaded via a
MyMedia link.
 Announcements – a primary method of communication from teaching staff to students. Often your
course coordinator will notify students of any important cancellations, changes or reminders.
Personalising Your Account – Add An Avatar
 You can customise your MyUni profile by adding an avatar. Click on your name at the top right of the
screen, expand the ‘Settings’ tab, select ‘Personal Information’ and then ‘Personalise My Settings’. If you
upload an image as your avatar it will appear in the MyUni webpage header in posts you make to blogs,
journals, discussions, and wikis.
 Images must be resized to 150 pixels x 150 pixels (this can be done online at resizeyourimage.com).

Supported Browsers
These are a number of browsers recommended and tested by Blackboard which differ based on the operating
system you are running. However, it cannot be guaranteed that they will work as expected 100% of the time.
You might find things do not work correctly in one particular browser but might be fine in another. If you
experience issues, try again in a different browser.
 Windows Vista: Mozilla Firefox
 Windows 7: Firefox, Google Chrome
 Mac OSX: Safari 5, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome
Java and Flash must also be up to date for MyUni to
function effectively.

Blackboard Mobile Learn (Smartphone App)
 The Blackboard Mobile Learn app is supported by:
o iOS 6.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch
o Android 2.3 or later
 Getting started with Blackboard Mobile Learn
o Download Blackboard Mobile Learn from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android)
o Select institution (University of Adelaide)
o Log in with your student ID ‘a########’ and University password

 Key functionality of the Blackboard app
o The dashboard, similarly to MyUni on a computer, displays all recent notifications in one list
o You can rename, hide, reorder, and color-code courses in your list by tapping on the pencil and
then on the respective icon. When finished, tap on the tick to save changes.
o You can set favourites within a course which will appear at the top of the list of items within a
particular course for easy access.

o You can edit push notification settings by tapping on Settings, then Notifications and using the
toggle to select ‘ON’ for the notifications you want to receive.
o Some online tests can be taken using the Blackboard Mobile Learn app, but be careful as tests are
often not supported – they must be created as a mobile compatible test by the course coordinator. As
your fellow students, we recommend that you do not use the app to take tests.
o To upload a document to Dropbox or Google Drive, open the document through Blackboard Mobile
Learn and when open, tap on the share icon (square with an arrow coming from it and select Upload
to…). You will be prompted to enter your Dropbox/Google account details (only the first time) and
then to select a target location for the file.

 The Blackboard Mobile Learn app currently has limited functionality. Some features just open the full web
page version within the app (Calendar, Send Email, Wikis, Glossary, Contacts, Course Messages,
Assignments, Surveys).
Further Support Options
From time to time MyUni has scheduled down time for upgrades and maintenance. These are advertised by
email well in advance and it is important for you to be aware of downtimes, particularly when they fall close to
important submission deadlines.
