Outstanding Master thesis in the field of
digital image processing honored with student prize
ISRA Machine Vision Award supporting
scientific research activities at Sabancı University
Germany-based ISRA VISION AG, one of the world’s top Machine
Vision companies for 3D Robot Automation applications and a global
leader in surface inspection systems, presented the ISRA Machine
Vision Award since 2011. The Award was orginally created to
encourage prolific researchers in Germany to expand their careers in
the field of digital image processing. In November, the award was
presented to a Turkish student for the first time. Rıza Alp Güler’s
dissertation at Sabancı University convinced the jury by giving new
and enlightening insights into the subject of shape recognition.
Supporting and guiding young people towards a bright future is an
integral part of ISRA’s company principles. For this reason, the annual
Machine Vision Award was established in 2011 in Germany and now
presented for the first time in Turkey. It pursues the distinctive goal of
fostering young talented students and filling them with enthusiasm
for study focused on digital image processing. A very promising field
for university graduates, it offers many opportunities to launch a
successful career.
Sabancı University Master’s student, Rıza Alp Güler won the 2014
Turkish edition of the award with his dissertation titled ‘Coding Shape
Inside the Shape’ with advisor Associate Professor Gözde Ünal. The
award-winning thesis relates to the automatic recognition of shapes
within an already defined object . Being presented in Turkey for the
first time, with a value of EUR 1,500, the prize received great interest
from the undergraduate and graduate holders of the leading Turkish
universities. All scholars of electronics, computer science, mechanical
engineering, mathematics and physics were eligible to enter.
