Physical Education AQA Entry Requirements: Holy Family 6th entry requirements apply. In addition you will need Grade C or above in GCSE PE and be actively performing, coaching and/or officiating in some activity outside of school. The Learning: The course is split into two components for each year of study, one being practical and the other being theory and the units are as follows; PHED 1 – Opportunities for and the effects of leading a healthy and active lifestyle. Students will cover anatomy, skill acquisition and history and contemporary aspects which will be assessed in a two hour written exam (30%). PHED 2 – Analysis and evaluation of physical activity as a performer and/ or in an adopted role/s. Students will offer practical assessment in two activities from the roles of performer, coach and official. The activities will be chosen by the PE department and a residential will be available to boost practical marks. Students will have the opportunity to be assessed in their own choice of activity where they will need to gather video evidence (20%). PHED 3 – Optimising performance and evaluating contemporary issues within sport. Like the AS year, students will be assessed in a two hour exam after covering sports psychology, biomechanics and commercialisation theory aspects (30%). PHED 4 – Optimising practical performance in a competitive situation. Students will perform in one of the three roles from AS level in a fully competitive situation, and will also complete a coursework piece to accompany this (20%). What direction this course might take you in: This course is suitable for those students who are looking into studying a sports related degree at University or for future employment in the Sports Industry.
