Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU - http://fgcu.edu), the home of “Dunk City”, invites applications for an innovative and technologically-proficient higher education professional for the position of Clinical Coordinator of the Physician Assistant Studies Program (Requisition #2430) in the Department of Health Sciences within the College of Health Professions and Social Work (http://fgcu.edu/chpsw). The successful candidate will be appointed with a preferred start date of August 7, 2016. The position may be filled at the rank of Instructor/Assistant Professor, depending on qualifications. About the Department of Health Sciences The Department of Health Sciences (HS) (http://fgcu.edu/chpsw/hs) is a dynamic and rapidly growing academic unit with an interdisciplinary focus. As one of six academic units within the College of Health Professions and Social Work, HS offers a NAACLS-accredited BS degree program in Clinical Laboratory Sciences, as well as a BS degree program in Health Science. At the graduate level, the Department offers an MS degree in Health Science with emphasis tracks in Health Services Administration and Health Professions Education. Moreover, the Department offers a post-baccalaureate certificate in Clinical Laboratory Sciences and a graduate certificate in Health Services Administration. The programs offered in the Department are predominantly delivered via distance learning using an advanced course management learning platform, as well as other delivery techniques including face-to-face courses. The Department is currently embarking on a new five-year strategic plan (2015-2020) where current undergraduate and graduate programs in Health Science are anticipated to transition into a Bachelor of Science in Public Health and a Master of Health Administration which will be accredited by their respective agencies. Additionally, the Department has been vigorously pursuing the development of the Physician Assistant Studies (PAS) program where currently we have applied for Accreditation – Provisional from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). The PAS program is scheduled for review by the commission on its March 2017 agenda, and we anticipate matriculating our first class in June 2017, pending achieving Accreditation – Provisional status at the March 2017 ARC-PA meeting. Faculty in the Department currently offer expertise in the following areas: public health, environmental health, health services administration, health professions education, nutrition, clinical laboratory science, clinical exercise physiology, and public administration.
