MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise employees performing maintenance and repairs at school sites in the repairs and
replacement of built-up, membrane, and shingled roofing systems; cut and replace glass
and/or plastic glazing (mechanically and putty mounted) repair flagpoles; maintenance and
repair of commercial and residential grade food appliances; installation and repair of vinyl,
ceramic, and terra-cotta tile; people) operate machine shop, perform gas and electric welding,
repair stationary power tools, and service small engines; install and/or repair walls
constructed of brick, concrete block, and glass block shades and blinds; and assemble, sew,
install, repair and/or replace window shades and blinds.

Assign computerized work requests from school sites.
Assist employees with repairs.
Approve small purchases.
Compose specifications for contracted repairs.
Interview (in committee) job applicants.
Check attendance.
Approve annua11eave requests.
Review proposed building plans/blueprints.
Schedule and inspect in-house and contracted repairs.
Respond to after hours emergency repair calls and contacts repair personnel.
Recommend budget projects.
Perform Internet research (repair methods and materials).
Troubleshoot electrical/electronic control systems (machinery and fire control
systems).
Drive pick-up truck in execution of duties.
Inspect school buildings and initiate repairs.
Evaluate employee goals and performance.
Respond to e-mail and phone/fax inquiries on work request status.
Read blueprints/schematics.
Coordinate repairs with other foremen (carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, night
crew.)
Train backhoe operators.
Perform related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the basic principles and methods of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC,
energy, asbestos, and trades as applied to the maintenance and repair of large buildings and
related facilities; ability to plan work independently; ability to prepare plans, specifications
and estimates; thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, equipment, tools and
materials used in maintenance work; thorough knowledge of the hazards and necessary safety
precautions involved in maintenance work; ability to plan and supervise the work of
subordinates; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED. Combination of training and experience, which provides the
required knowledge, skills and abilities to oversee seven different trades Ten years
experience in the field.
A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling,
reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
