Art Illustration
This class will enhance the student’s ability to think and communicate ideas visually through freehand
drawing, painting and mixed media. While advancing their drawing skills students will be introduced but
not limited to a variety of design projects such as book illustration 2-D design, and cartooning.




This is a higher level class therefor I expect a level of commitment, preparation and participation.
I expect everyone to contribute to class discussions be open minded and respectful of others.
I expect students to do more working than talking. Socializing is second to listening and working.

RESPECT (the room, the tools, each other, yourself and me)
PROMPTNESS a tardy will result in points off your daily class participation grade (3 tardy= 1 absents)
after 12 absents you will have to appeal for class credit
RESPONSIBILITY, TOLERANCE, COMMITMENT
FOUL LANGUAGE WILL NOT BE TOLERATED
Disruptions of any kind will not be tolerated; good behavior is always expected.
ELECTRONIC DEVICES should be off and out of sight unless given the green light by the teacher. If the
green light is given devices may be used for research ONLY. There will be a sign on the board which will
indicate that you have the green light. YOU WILL BE GIVEN THE LAST FIVE MINUTES OF CLASS TO
CHECK YOUR TEXT MESSAGES. THEREFORE THE REST OF THE CLASS PERIOD YOU ARE NOT TO HAVE
YOUR PHONES OUT TO USE SOCIAL MEDIA OR TEXT. There will be no charging phones during class.
Any device seen during class time will be confiscated and given to the office. There will be no
discussion about it as THIS IS THE FIRST WARNING.
Class structure Attendance will be taken in the first 5 minutes of class during this time students will
remain in their seats so that an accurate attendance is taken. Each class will start with a teacher introduction,
introducing a new project or reviewing what we did the day before. After the introduction the students will
get their projects and supplies.






Students are responsible for cleaning up after themselves.
Students are also responsible for their in-progress projects. Projects must be put away at the end of each
class so that they do not get lost. I can’t grade something I don’t see.
Names must be on all projects. No name no grade.
You will be required to get a sketchbook for this class. Hey have inexpensive ones in the area please see
me if you have any issue getting one. The book must have blank pages in it for sketching…no lines.
Sketchbook assignments will be given weekly and are due on Mondays or Tuesdays.
Students must stay in their seats until the bell rings. Last block students will be asked to put up chairs
and then stay by their desk until the bell rings.
Turning in assignments




All assignments will have a due date and should be put in the designated turn in bin. Late projects will be
marked down 5 points each day. Please talk to me if there is ever an issue of turning in something on
time.
Projects should be handed in with the rubric that is given to you at the start of the project.
Names must be put on all projects. No name no grade.
If you miss a school day it is your responsibility to ask me what you missed.
Grading Parents and students are encouraged to sign up for powerschool.

Projects
Each project will involve several objectives, which will be given out at the beginning of
each project.

Art history/
You will be doing writing assignments from time to time. You will need to take notes
on art history. Small starter projects will fall under class work. Quizzes and tests will
always be announced.

CONTRIBUTE/ LISTEN/ RESPECT OTHERS There will be numerous opportunities to
participate in class discussions. A class participation grade will be given each day based
on the students’ behavior, participation, commitment and attendance.

Sketchbook
Sketchbook assignments are given weekly. These assignments are due Monday or
Tuesday depending on when we meet that week.

Exam
There will be a final exam at the end of the semester. Seniors with an A average are
eligible for exemption per teacher and administration discretion. This will be added
into the MP grade to complete the final grade.
