SikaPlast® Powered by ViscoCrete® Mid Range Water Reducer Cement Grain From Mid Range to High Range Water Reducer PCE SikaPlast® Powered by ViscoCrete® The innovation and development of superplasticizers based on polycarboxylate ether (PCE) play a major role in order to enhance both technical performance of the concrete and the production process. With the application of PCE based superplasticizers, like the Sika® ViscoCrete® technology, it is possible to produce high performance concrete types. SikaPlast® combines the latest technology innovation and offers therefore an optimized cost performance for all volume applications in your daily concrete business. PCE PCE PCE PCE Cement Grain Technology Characteristics and Advantages of Polycarboxylate Ether Technology (PCE) The major characteristic of polycarboxylate ether-based superplasticizer technology is their targeted polymer design to achieve specific concrete properties. The crucial factor is the limited space for carboxyl groups and side chains along the backbone. Either a carboxyl group or side chain can be attached at a certain location. This leads to the technological limitation that there are essentially three different types of polymers – water reducing, slump controlling and slump retention polymers. Characteristics that can be influenced are: Adsorption speed Water reduction with high initial liquefaction / workability Slump retention without retardation and subsequent fast strength development Early strength development with sufficient workability time Stickiness Stability / viscosity Various combinations of these properties can be optimized. Application Pump up your Concrete The application range of SikaPlast® is from ready mix concrete, site batched concrete to big infrastructure projects or even private houses. The uniformity of the concrete mix is positively influenced across the entire dosing spectrum, achieving maximum leverage of product performance with regards to economical mix design. Special developed new polymer combinations based on the Sika® ViscoCrete® technology are the key element of the new SikaPlast® product range. The development of these special polymers makes SikaPlast® a unique admixture for your high efficient concrete. Benefits of SikaPlast® SikaPlast® Efficency SikaPlast® is much more efficient at lower dosages compared to traditional Polycarboxylates. Powered by ViscoCrete® Sensitivity SikaPlast® is more robust against variations in aggregates and different cement-types. The polymers consist of backbones with carboxyl groups and side chains. Flexible applications SikaPlast® is suitable for a wide range of application. The first component – backbone with carboxyl groups – is responsible for the attainable water reduction / initial slump and mixing time respectively. The second one – side chains – determines the slump keeping capability of the superplasticizer, affected by an increasing number of side chains. Ecology SikaPlast® supports your efforts to change your mixes into a concrete with less impact on the environment. Standard Concrete High Efficiency Concrete High Performance Concrete SikaPlast® on Vertical Slip Form Concrete La Confluencia Project in Chile Project reference La Confluencia Project is located 40 kilometers from San Fernando (Chile). This mega structure for the construction of a shaft 360 meters long stands out in the middle of the rock. An impressive concrete shaft has replaced the steel outer discharge pipe that drains toward the power turbines. Sika has scaled the mountain to solve this important challenge. The pressure tunnel is enclosed in part by a concrete lining and by a liner of steel to protect against water pressures. The task of building the concrete lining was critical because we had to work on several fronts simultaneously. Concrete was laid with a systems slip form, installing the concrete lining and then the steel liner in the tunnel, which was placed in sections of 3 m and then welded. Requirements The customer was looking for a concrete with high cohesiveness and a good early strength. Furthermore a low water cement ratio was required for this challenging project. With SikaPlast® the contractor fulfilled the specification and achieved good operational performance. Using a single admixture in the concrete was another advantage, because SikaPlast® combines benefits and effects of significant water reduction with good workability behaviours and requiered early strength development.
