Worldpay welcomes Apple Pay
Your guide to accepting Apple Pay at Point of Sale
1
What is Apple Pay?
Apple Pay is a mobile payment and digital wallet service that lets users
make payments using iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch devices.
Point of Sale
Consumers wirelessly pay for goods and services by
presenting their iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus or Apple
Watch device with a Contactless enabled terminal.

Apple Pay at Point of Sale
It’s simple, secure and private. It gives your customers a more convenient way to pay.
Benefits:
•
Quick and simple payment experience for customers,
speeding up queues in-store and increasing checkout speed
on your website.
•
Capitalise on the rise of mobile payments: over 500 million
iPhone 6 and 6 Plus globally.
•
Apple Pay’s technology replicates security of Chip and PIN
transactions with the convenience of an App based solution.
•
There’s no transaction limit with Apple Pay so customers can
benefit from the simplicity of contactless on any purchase*.
*Some retailer systems have yet to be upgraded to accept high value contactless and therefore
Apple Pay transactions might initially be restricted to the standard Contactless limit.

Paying with Apple Pay in-store
Apple Pay user journey in-store
Users set up their card
information in Apple’s
Passbook app. This is part
of the initial set up and
would be done before
the user enters the store.
4
Customer initiates a
purchase in-store by holding
their iPhone 6 near to the
contactless reader with their
finger on Touch ID.
The Apple device will
vibrate and display a tick
on screen to confirm the
card details have been read
by the terminal or reader.
The terminal or card
reader will confirm the
transaction is complete
and the iPhone will log the
transaction as successful
in Passbook.
Apple Pay security
How Apple Pay ensures safe and secure payments
Tokenisation
• Tokenisation replaces the Credit or Debit Card number with a randomly generated digital payment token; the
transaction continues as normal using the digital token instead of the Credit or Debit Card number, making it
more secure.
Biometric Technology
• Biometric technology uses body characteristics such as fingerprints, eye retinas, voice patterns and facial
patterns to authenticate a user.
• Apple Pay specifically uses fingerprint recognition technologies on the iPhone 6 in the form of Touch ID.
Consumer Privacy
• Apple Pay is designed to protect consumer data by not saving transaction data on the phone.
• The card data is replaced with a token, therefore it is extremely difficult for hackers to commit fraud.

Apple Pay at Point of Sale: your questions answered
What does Apple Pay mean for my business?
Worldpay customers will now be able to accept Apple Pay payments via a Contactless enabled payment terminal.
How does Apple Pay work?
Customers load their card information into the Passbook app on their Apple device. When paying, users simply tap their phone on
the contactless reader at the point of sale, the payment then verified by the biometric identification button (Touch ID). The
transaction is authorised through to the issuer the same as a Contactless transaction.
Does Worldpay support Apple Pay Transactions?
Yes, Apple Pay can be accepted through any Worldpay standalone terminal (desktop, portable, mobile) which currently accepts
Contactless transactions.
I already accept contactless payments with Worldpay, do I need to do anything with my terminal?
No, you don’t have to do anything. Apple Pay complies with the latest Visa, MasterCard and American Express standards.
Are there any additional costs associated with the processing of Apple Pay transactions?
No.
What about payment security?
Apple Pay payment data is secured in two ways: Tokenisation improves card data security and biometrics authenticates the user of
the smart phone by their fingerprint.

Apple Pay at Point of Sale: your questions answered
I don’t currently accept contactless, can Worldpay terminals be updated to accept Apple Pay and other
Contactless transactions?
It depends on which model of terminal you have. Please see below for further details by terminal.
•
Ingenico terminals. If you have an Ingenico terminal and currently accept Contactless transactions, then you can accept
Apple Pay transactions immediately. If you have an Ingenico terminal but do not currently accept Contactless
transactions, then in most cases your terminal can be updated remotely without any disruption to your business. To do
this, please call our Customer Services team on 08457 61 62 63 who will be happy to arrange this for you. Please select
Option 1 and then Option 5.
•
Verifone OR Gemalto terminals. Unfortunately these cannot be updated remotely and will need to be replaced. We’re
happy to do this for you, but there may be a charge or a change to your terms.
•
Worldpay Zinc terminals. We are afraid these cannot support Contactless transactions, which includes Apple Pay.
•
Worldpay Total. Please contact the Worldpay Total helpdesk on 0845 366 6015 (option 2) for more information.
If you would like to talk to one of our team about the possibility of upgrading to a Contactless solution please call 08457 61 62 63.
Can I accept Apple Pay and other Contactless transactions if my terminal is not from Worldpay?
If your terminal is not provided by Worldpay, you will need to contact your solution provider to see how this might be achieved. If
required, we would be happy to provide you with solutions that will allow you to accept Apple Pay and Contactless.
How will Apple Pay affect Ireland merchants?
All the terminals supplied by Worldpay that are Contactless enabled will be able to process Apple Pay transactions up to €15 if the
payment has been authenticated using the Touch ID mechanism. Pricing is not affected. However, please note that businesses in the
Republic of Ireland will only be able to accept Apple Pay from visitors from the UK or US.
Will our standard Ingenico terminals be able to accept Apple Pay transactions over £20?
Yes, for all those already capable of accepting Contactless transactions . This does not include Worldpay Total customers .
Can US visitors pay using Apple Pay in the UK?
