OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR FILM DUPLICATORS Models 21520, 21522 and 21524 1. USE ONLY DUPLICATING FILM 2. Open latch and lift cover 3. This will permit the positioning of the duplicating film over the original x-rays to be duplicated in the dark room. 4. Place the original x-rays to be duplicated on top of the plate. Then place the duplicating film (emulsion must face down) on top of the original. Small notch must be on UPPER RIGHT CORNER. NOTE: Original X-Ray and duplicating film MUST be in DIRECT CONTACT with each other with NO air gap between them. 5. Close cover and latch. Turn the rocker switch to "On." 6. Turn timer dial to 10 seconds. 7. Average duplicating time is 10 seconds. This could vary by the density of the original or the desired density of the duplicate. 8. Depress the time button (white button in the center of the timer), a red light on the panel will indicate the start and stop of the exposure. 9. If density of the duplicate is too dark, INCREASE exposure time 5 seconds. If too light, DECREASE exposure time 5 seconds (see NOTE below). 10. After duplication is complete, lift cover and remove duplicated film. 11. Place duplicating film in processing tank and develop in same manner as regular x-ray film. NOTE: Duplicating film is a direct positive type with emulsion coated on one side of a polyester base. Being a direct positive film, the relationship of exposure to image density is directly opposite that of dental x-ray film. Therefore, if density of duplicate is too dark, increase exposure time until desired result is reached. If density of duplicate is too light, decrease exposure time until desired result is reached. Developing solution must be kept constantly fresh. Failure to do so will result in poor duplications, i.e. lack of contrast, or grayish background. Use manufacturer’s recommended developing instructions, such as Flow, Kodak, F.R., G.E, etc. CHECK YOUR DUPLICATOR BEFORE USING 1. Plug unit in a 110 volt outlet, and lift the cover 2. Turn black rocker switch to "On." 3. Set time to 10 seconds, depress timer button in the center of the timer and see if indicator light and ultraviolet lamp are on. If not, remove white plate and see if lamp is properly in sockets. (Avoid looking directly at the ultraviolet lamp.) Note: Timer dial will NOT move during timer cycle.
