Study 2c questionnaire

Next we are going to ask you a few questions about immigration.

We are going to give you some information about immigration to the Netherlands.

Please read this information carefully as you will be asked questions later.

As you are probably aware, there is currently a political debate and difference of opinion between the parties about the number of immigrants that should be allowed to enter the Netherlands.

(Polish lower educated condition)

Immigration is a hotly debated topic and both advocates and opponents of immigration cite many arguments in defence of their respective position. As you are probably aware, there is currently a political debate and difference of opinion between the parties about the number of immigrants that should be allowed to enter the Netherlands.

Many factors contribute to the number and origin of immigrants who apply for entry to the Netherlands, but experts have some understanding of this process and so immigration is predictable to a certain extent.

For example, given known developments in the Netherlands and other countries, it is expected that during the coming years a lot of immigrants from Poland and other Eastern European countries will try to migrate to the Netherlands.

These immigrants are expected to be predominantly lower educated

Polish and they will be looking mainly for jobs not requiring higher qualifications here in the Netherlands.

Study 2c questionnaire

We would like to better understand in which situations people feel emotions.

Therefore we will ask you to describe a situation in which you felt an emotion.

We want to ask you to describe an event in which you felt an emotion because of something that happened to you as a member of a group. In other words, it should be an event that affected something that was important to the group you belong to, an effect on the goals or interests of that group. It could be any group, like friends or colleagues but also larger social categories such as people sharing the same age, culture, ethnicity, or nationality with you. It is crucial that the emotion was a reaction to something that happened to the group rather than to you as an individual. With this we mean emotions that are a reaction to group concerns rather than individual concerns.

Please describe briefly the situation in which the emotion occurred, what happened, and why you felt the emotion. There is no need for details, we only need to understand why you felt the emotion.

Now we would like to ask you a few questions about the event you just described.

How would you describe, in one or a few words, the emotion you felt?

When did this event happen?

To what extent did you feel the following emotions during the event? You can respond on a scale from 0 (Not at all) to 10 (Very much).

Indignation

Anger

Sadness

Disapointment

Relief

Worry

Hope

Pride
