REFRIGERATION, AIRCONDITIONING AND
MECHANICAL SERVICES INCLUDING
LIMITED DESIGN
Scope of work
(1) Install, commission, service or repair refrigeration, airconditioning, mechanical
ventilation and air handling systems for a building.
(2) Design and prepare plans and specifications for—
(a) refrigeration systems for a building; or
(b) airconditioning and mechanical ventilation and air handling systems for a
building—
(i) that is not more than 3 storeys; and
(ii) that has a floor area of not more than 2000 m 2; and
(iii) for which the plant capacity for any 1 system for the building is not more
than 34 kW;
(ba) to the extent the plans and specifications are for airconditioning and
mechanical
ventilation and air handling systems for a building – the systems
do not form part of a fire or smoke hazard management system for the building;
and
but only if—
(c) the plans and specifications are—
(i) for the licensee’s personal use; or
(ii) for use in building work to be performed by the licensee personally.
Technical qualifications
The technical qualifications stated in the technical qualifications document for the
licence class applied for.
Managerial qualifications
An approved managerial qualification.

Document for this licence class
Refrigeration, air-conditioning and mechanical services
including limited design licence
Any one of the following—
(a) successful completion of any of the following courses—
(i) an apprenticeship in refrigeration and air-conditioning;
(ii) Certificate III in Engineering Mechanical Trade (Refrigeration and Air Conditioning)
MEM30205;
(iii) Certificate III in Air-conditioning and Refrigeration UEE32211;
(b) successful completion of a course the commission considers is at least equivalent to a
course mentioned in paragraph (a);
(c) a recognition certificate as a qualified refrigeration and air-conditioning mechanic;
(d) a qualification or statement of attainment of required competency for the class of licence.
