VMware Continuent
MySQL HA/DR Clustering for Business Continuity
AT A G L A N C E
VMware Continuent® provides a managed cluster
environment for MySQL to support highly scalable
and fault-tolerant database solutions. Using
standard MySQL distributions, including those
from Percona and MariaDB, a cluster can be
deployed with automated read/write splitting, and
read-load distribution. The managed cluster
automatically provides failover for high availability
(HA), and a front-end connector allows you to use
an unmodified version of your application,
requiring no changes. In addition, clusters can be
combined across data centers for disaster
recovery (DR) and geo-located for multi-site,
multi-primary clusters.
KEY BENEFITS
•Flexible, high-performance clustering for
MySQL databases.
•Automated read/write splitting and read-load
distribution.
•Works with MySQL, Percona and MariaDB.
•Provides full HA and DR functionality.
•Connectivity across multiple sites for DR and
multi-primary loads.
Key Benefits
•Supports on-premises and cloud-based deployments and
replication, including between data centers and across continents.
•Active, high-performance and low-latency replication of data.
Latency is measured in sub-second times.
•Flexible filtering of databases, tables, columns across any
combination of source or target environments.
•Provides transparent database connectivity requiring no
changes to your application to gain access to required
functionality.
•Zero-downtime maintenance allows individual nodes to be
temporarily removed and replaced within a cluster for OS,
software or hard maintenance.
•Fully supported across multiple data centers providing
DR functionality with automatic redirect through the
application connector.
•Fully supported multi-site, multiple master clustering enables
two or more fully operational read/write clusters with
replication between clusters for geographic distribution of
read and write loads.
•Supports MySQL 5.0-5.6, Percona Server and MariaDB 5.5
and 10.0
•Compatible with VMware Continuent for Big Data and
Analytics to load transactional data stores directly into your
analytics or data warehouse engine.

“By leveraging the VMware Continuent, we have
increased our ability to provide higher levels of
availability and uptime, including complex database
upgrades and operations in production. VMware
Continuent can help us at least in two ways to lower
OpEx: enables more customers on each pod (database
cluster) and allows us to use replication between our
current hosting provider and another, more cost effective
hosting provider to augment pods or completely switch
over to save significant money. These two combined
will easily save us multiple times the investment we are
making in VMware Continuent software.”

VMware Continuent
Commercial-grade Database HA and DR for MySQL
Primary: the source database where transactions are being extracted from.
Secondary: the target database where transactions are being replicated to.
“VMware Continuent is in use for over 40-50 systems and has allowed us to quickly switch from primary to secondary in
several situations with no service interruption.”
