All of the power supply cords pictured, and all of our molds, where specified, are UL listed and CSA certified. All of our products will fall under one of the following file numbers: CANADIAN STANDARDS ASSOCIATION UNDERWRITERS LABORATORIES E18951 E45239 E48367 LR14017 LL24378 All of our products are labeled to meet the requirements of UL and CSA. Labeling requirements, of course, vary with the final product classification and end use: power supply cord, detachable power supply cord, wiring harness, cord set, processed wire, etc. Where bulk labeling is used, cartons should not be broken down or destroyed until at the end user's location, to avoid loss of UL and CSA identification. UL and CSA require identification of all components. We achieve this by placing our name and address (Electri-Cord, Westfield, PA) on the face of each plug or connector as it is molded. Westfield, PA ~ Since 1946 ~ Quality is Consistency: Excellence is Consistent Service. At Electri-Cord, quality is much more than the absence of defects; it is the way we manage our business. We consider that consistency in all of our processes that go in to producing an electric cord is the route to quality and that consistancy is only achievable through the use of techniques such as statistical process control [SPC], to continuously improve our process and our product. In this way, we prevent defects from hapening in the first place. In today's competitive environment, we consider it is no longer good enough just to meet specifications - we aim to center all of our processes well within specifications. We recognize that true quality can therefore only be achieved by the continuous improvement of all stages of our process... not just manufacturing but also purchasing, administration, etc. and indeed all aspects of service to the customer. Quality is a way of managing, simply because our approach depends on teamwork between our management team and our workforce. At Electri-Cord, we believe in our workforce - they are the people that know our processes and how to improve them, and we hold structured, regular meetings to harness their knowledge. These work teams then use a "Seven Step" approach to process improvement, as shown below. We train our workforce to treat their colleagues at the next stage in the manufacturing cycle as customers, and to work with them to improve quality techniques such as SPC. Perhaps most important to our quality approach is our dependence on you, the customer. We believe you can help us improve our product even further by constant review against your needs; just as we are with our own suppliers. We extend an open invitation to all of our customers to visit us here in Westfield, PA and see how we achieve quality. achieve quality. Westfield, PA ~ Since 1946 ~ Special Operations: Custom Capabilities If you are looking for a cord but not sure of all specifications and dimensions you need, or you need to modify a cord shown in this catalog, give our problem-solvers a call. They will be more than glad to help you specify a cord for just your requirements. Mechanically Assembled Plugs Electri-Cord has the capabilities to assemble many varieties of mechanically-applied plugs. These include hospital grade, high amperage, and twist-lock plugs in most NEMA configurations. We can assemble the brand name you specify, or we will suggest a competitive, more readily available alternate. In-Line Switches Electri-Cord is fully equipped to assemble in-line thumb-wheel switches onto 18/2 SPT-1 and SPT-2 wire. Once assembled, the cord and switch are each fully tested for continuity, polarity, and switch operation. Switches are available in black, brown, and ivory with your choice of location on the cord. Terminals We stock over 100 terminals of all types and configurations: rings, disconnects, spades, bare, tinned, insulated, and fully insulated. We are able to supply you with the exact terminal you require, or with an equivalent we may have in stock. All terminal crimping is carefully monitored for proper security and crimp heights. Bulk Wire on Reels Although Electri-Cord does not specialize in selling bulk wire, we do make available our inventory of 20 million feet to our customers. If the wire you need is on hand, and we have enough inventory to spare, we will be able to ship in 24-72 hours. We prefer to ship stock wire on full reels, but will re-spool down to a minimum 1000 feet per spool, at a nominal cost. Custom Colors Although most of our 20 million foot inventory of wire consists of black, grey and white, we have successfully matched colors for many customers in the past. Custom colors such as blue, red, beige, and orange are always possible. There may be minimums on special colors and lead times may be affected. Please call our sales department with your special requirements. Westfield, PA ~ Since 1946 ~ Glossary of Terminology-Wire Type: Flat Wire: SPT: Stranded, Parallel, Thermoplastic This is always followed by a -1, -2 or -3, signifying insulation thickness for different applications. HPN: Heater, Parallel, Neoprene Required for heater-type application, such as irons, toasters, etc. NOTE: We can run some 20 AWG, but mostly we run 18, 16 and 14 AWG, 2 or 3 conductors. P is always Parallel Wire (Flat). Jacketed Wire: S = Stranded (or Service Wire) J = Junior Service (300 Volt). If no "J" is in the wire type, then it is a hard service (600 Volt). T = Thermoplastic. If no "T" is in the wire type, then it has a rubber jacket. O = Oil-Resistant Compound W = Weather-Resistant Compound V = Vacuum - as in vacuum cleaner. This is a small O.D. jacketed wire, very flexible and initially used for vacuum cleaners but now used on many different types of products. Available only in 18 AWG. Examples: SV = Stranded Vacuum Rubber Jacketed (NO "T") SJT = Stranded Junior Thermoplastic SJTOW = Stranded Junior Thermoplastic, Oil and Weather resistant for UL and CSA. Miscellaneous requirements: S.P. = Surface Printed N.M. = Non-Migratory compound to prevent the wire color from bleeding under unusual circumstances. VW-1 = Vertical Flame test (formerly FR-1) 60°C = Standard temperature rating (except HPN - 90°C 105°C = Electri-Cord's alternate rating (we normally don't stock 75°, 90°C) IEC, ICC = International Color Code on the inner conductors (Blue, Brown, Green w/Yellow Stripe) N.A. = North American Color Code on the inner conductors (Black, White, Green) 41/34 = Stranding - 41 strands of 34 AWG wire for each inner conductor T.C. = Tinned Copper inner conductors RIBBED = Outer jacket is striated with ribs R/S or W/S = Red or White Stripe for visual polarity inspection on Flat wire Inner Conductor Colors Function North American (NA) International (ICC) Hot Black Brown Neutral Earth (Ground) White Green Blue Green w/Yellow Stripe Metric Conversion Chart: Metric to Standard Notes Standard to Metric 25.4 mm per inch 305 mm per foot .305 M per foot 1.61 KM per mile .03937 inches per mm 39.37 inches per meter 3.28 feet per meter .622 miles per KM In.
