FEATURES DESCRIPTION • 600°C continuous hot-­‐side temperature capability Evident’s family of thermoelectric power generation modules addresses multiple power generation applications where a high-­‐temperature heat source is present. The extreme temperature capability and mechanical robustness of these devices is enabled by Evident’s patented nano-­‐engineered half-­‐Heusler thermoelectric materials. The m odules are sealed in a hermetic package and are suitable for combustion environments. • Efficiency in excess of 4.5% (@ 500°C ΔT) • Extremely robust • Laser welded case with hermetic feedthroughs appropriate for combustion environments.
The TEG-­‐HH-­‐15-­‐1.0 can produce 15 Watts of power when a temperature gradient of 500°C is applied (assumes 100°C cold side temperature). The small size, high power output and reliability of this device make it ideal for local, high reliability power generation from waste and primary heat sources. The added power density of the TEG-­‐HH-­‐
15-­‐1.0 makes it particularly useful for applications with very high temperature heat flows. The device has been implemented successfully in applications with heat flows in excess of 1000°C. The TEG-­‐HH-­‐15-­‐1.0’s lower thermal resistance m aintains the hot-­‐side temperature of the module below 600°C even with a high-­‐temperature exhaust stream present.

As with any real voltage source, maximum power output is attained when the load has a matched resistance ( i.e. impedance) to the source. Peak Power performance is measured in test circuits where the load resistance matches the internal resistance.

ENDURANCE PERFORMANCE Thermal soak and thermal cycling performance is illustrated by the representative test data shown below. Modules are specified such that the final value will be at or above rated power. RECOMMENDED OPERATING CONDITIONS
The m odule requires a minimum of 600 kPa (~90 psi) of pressure on the hot side face in order to m aintain optimal internal thermal conductivity. In addition, it is recommended that a suitable thermal interface layer, such as a graphite foil, be placed between the module and adjacent heat exchangers. Care must be taken to engineer suitable heat exchangers so that an optimal ΔT may be m aintained across the m odule for the desired set of temperature and flow conditions on either side. Thermal power through the device is typically 0.67 – 0.69 W/K. Note that thermal power will increase slightly with current. This is a normal behavior of thermoelectric devices. For maximum reliability, it is recommended that the hot side continuous temperature be maintained below 600°C with intermittent operation below 700°C. The upper temperature limit for continuous operation on the cold side is 200°C. Please consult with Evident for applications where the cold side of the module will be exposed to temperatures below 0°C during operation.
