The studied concrete slab belongs to an existing building constructed in 1973. It
supported some old medium voltage switchgears that must be changed for new
ones of different characteristics ( smaller but heavier).
Due to the construction date of the building there is no information about the steel
bars inside the reinforced concrete slab. Therefore it is necessary to make a
specific study of them by making grooves and non-destructive tests on the
concrete. With the results of the tests, the concrete slab has been modelled so the
maximum stresses of it can be checked.
In the final results of the study the bearing capacity of the actual slab is
established and two alternative ways of reinforcing it are considered, one being
making one steel superstructure over the slab and the other reducing the stress of
the beams placing a new diagonal steel column under it.
