Cosworth CAN Carbon Wheel 277 (CCW-277)
The Cosworth CCW is a lightweight carbon steering
wheel designed and built to the same quality standards
as our F1 steering wheels.
The CCW is built to a diameter of 277mm and integrates
a rich 3.5” sunlight viewable TFT display boasting high
graphical resolution at 320x240 QVGA with 64k colours,
making this one of the most powerful dash displays on
the market. The display is paired with ten shift and four
alarm LEDs, all tri-colour and fully configurable, and the
grips are manufactured in FR60 Shore Silicone rubber
moulded to the carbon frame. Altogether this is the
perfect solution for a formula wheel.
The CCW is fitted with four rotary and ten push button
switches that are all wired into an internal CAN
processor allowing for complete configurability and
significantly reducing the number of wires that need to
be passed through the column. The state of all ten
buttons can be defined as either Momentary or Latching
type, and are of the highest quality designed for over
500K cycles and can be fitted with a carbon guard to
prevent accidental operation. The CCW also has inputs
for two digital gear shift paddles and two analogue
clutch paddles, the input excitations for which can be
configured in software to be +5V or +12V. The CCW
enables all buttons and rotary’s to be transmitted via
CAN to a data logging system and also includes two
opto-isolated outputs to drive third party systems such
as a push-to-talk driver’s voice radio.
Designed to be electrically robust, the CCW-277 has
reverse-battery, over-voltage and load dump protection
built-in. All wiring to the main chassis loom is passed via
an AutoSport connector within the QR mechanism
allowing for quick removal of the steering wheel from
the car. The CCW is designed for the popular SPA quick
release mechanism and can be updated for other quick
release mechanisms as a cost option.
Designed to the latest FIA regulations, the CCW has a
solid connection between the front carbon panel and
the QR mechanism, ensuring all force from an impact is
passed directly through to the crushable column. FIA
regulations stipulate that the wheel must be crash
tested with the column it is to be fitted to and Cosworth
can provide full support to expedite the FIA approval
process.
