This compact trunking (1) (the insulated conductors are assembled side-by-side inside a metal casing) can be mounted edgewise, flat or vertically without any derating of the rated current In. This design eliminates the need for fire barriers where the trunking passes through building slab floors or fire walls. Canalis KVA standard trunking has a 2-hour fire resistance rating as defined by ISO 834 standards. A prelacquered (RAL 9001) galvanised sheet steel casing protects the conductors and provides the necessary mechanical strength for the assembly. The casing also serves as the protective conductor (PE as defined by IEC 364). The different trunking components are connected together by joint kits, providing both the mechanical link and the electrical connection of the live conductors and the protective conductor. Characteristics of Canalis KVA trunking: - 6 ratings: 200 to 800 A - 4 nickel-plated aluminium live conductors (3L + N + PE version) with identical cross-sections (N cross-section = phase cross-section) - conductor insulation: halogen-free 130°C class B polyester - standard degree of protection: IP52 - tap-offs: * via fixed tap-off units (installed with power off) of the KV range. They are mounted using the joint/tap-off kits described opposite. Option: - reinforced protective conductor (PER). The trunking is in this case provided with an additional protective conductor (copper) with a cross-sectional area half that of the phases (2). - IP54: by specifying option A1 (see "Options" page). Run components ET type These are designed to feed current through horizontal or vertical runs. Each length comes equipped with a standard joint kit. These components are produced in fixed lengths of 4 metres or in 0.35 m to 2 metre made to measure lengths as required. EV type These are designed for rising main distribution. Each length comes equipped with a joint/tap-off kit. These components are produced in fixed lengths of 1, 2 and 3 metres or in 2.50 m to 4 metre made to measure lengths as required. They should be mounted with the neutral on the left (see installation precautions). 1/8 Selection: pages 11002/12 and 11002/13 Characteristics: pages 11003/14 and 11003/15 Catalogue numbers: pages 11004/16 to 11004/27 Dimensions: pages 11005/28 to 11005/31 Canalis KVA (200 to 800 A) Description Joint kits 1 Standard joint kit Each ET run component and each component for changing direction comes with one standard joint kit. The joint mechanism is designed to provide both the mechanical link and the electrical connection of the live conductors and the protective conductor. Note: If the run has a feed unit at both ends, an additional standard joint kit must be ordered. 2 Joint/tap-off kit Each EV run component comes with one joint/tap-off kit. This joint mechanism provides the same functions as the standard joint kit plus the possibility of installing a tap-off unit of the KV range (see tap-off units). Both these kits can be ordered separately. For both types of joint kit, electrical continuity of all the conductors is provided by a single joint block. The connection is tightened using 1 or 2 bolts (depending on the rating), with torque nuts equipped with special heads that break off when the required torque is reached. A red washer is also freed and removed to provide a means of checking that the specified torque has been applied. This system ensures that the joint block applies precisely the necessary contact pressure on the live conductors in a manner that is independent with respect to operator action. • The operation is checked visually: - red washer absent: connection has been properly tightened - red washer visible: connection has not been properly tightened If subsequent disassembly is required (e.g. for servicing), the remaining nut can be retightened using a torque wrench. The recommended tightening torque is 4 daN.m. Connection components and feed units Connection components can be mounted at either end of a run. If there is a feed unit at both ends of the run, an additional joint kit should be ordered. End feed unit The end feed unit is fitted with a mounting plate (for the switchboard or transformer cover) and bars. These bars spread the connection points along the same axis as the trunking and enable direct connection, by flexible or rigid bars, or by cables, to the low voltage terminals of a transformer or the connections of a low voltage switchboard. The conductors used for KVA end feed units are all made of copper. 1/9 Selection: pages 11002/12 and 11002/13 Characteristics: pages 11003/14 and 11003/15 Catalogue numbers: pages 11004/16 to 11004/27 Dimensions: pages 11005/28 to 11005/31 Canalis KVA (200 to 800 A) Description Connection components and feed units (continued) KV - KS connector The KV - KS connector is fitted with a KV connector end at one end and a KS connector end at the other. Due to its flexible design, it can be used to directly connect a KV feed run to a KS distribution run even if they are not perfectly aligned. Cable-connection feed unit These feed units can be used to supply a KV run from cables fitted with lugs. Two versions (N1 and N2) are available for cable connection from the right or left of the KV run respectively. End cover The end cover protects and isolates the ends of the conductors and is mounted on the last length. Components for changing direction These components adapt the trunking direction to the contours of the building by changing direction and level. There are two types : 1 Rigid: - flat or edgewise elbows to change direction, upwards or downwards or to the left or right, - edgewise or flat tees. 2 Flexible EF type flexible components are available for all ratings. These components are made of copper. They are produced in 2 metre and 1 metre lengths and are designed for changing direction or avoiding obstacles. They can be used as final components (see page 11006/32). They can also be used as an expansion joint when the run is secured at both ends or when building expansion joints are crossed. In this case, the flexible part must be mounted in a “Z” configuration to allow axial movement in both directions. 1/10 Selection: pages 11002/12 and 11002/13 Characteristics: pages 11003/14 and 11003/15 Catalogue numbers: pages 11004/16 to 11004/27 Dimensions: pages 11005/28 to 11005/31 Canalis KVA (200 to 800 A) Description Fixing devices 1 Horizontal fixing bracket (see page 11005/30) This device is used to fix the run to the structure of the building, directly or via a threaded rod, a support bracket, etc. There is one model for all ratings of the KV range which can be used for ceiling-mounting, suspended mounting, wallmounting, etc. The maximum recommended spacing is 4 metres. 2 Vertical fixing bracket (see page 11005/30) Suitable for securing vertical run components to the structure of the building, this type of fixing device has the following advantages: - the height can be adjusted to correct positioning errors, - the spring can be adjusted to ensure the load is distributed at each level, -stresses related to the building (expansion, vibration, etc.) are not transmitted to the trunking. 3 Clamp Holds the trunking without blocking it on the support to allow for expansion. Tap-off units The tap-off units which are mounted on the KV trunking range are of the bolted type. They are mounted via a joint/tapoff kit. They must be installed or removed with power off. 1 Single-feeder tap-off unit for a Compact NS circuit breaker. Designed for rising main or low density distribution applications, it has the following characteristics: - available in 2 ratings (250 and 400 A), - the cover can only be opened after disconnecting the load, - degree of protection IP54, - when the door is open, no live part can be accessed (degree of protection IP2X). 1/11
