Edco SHAS Series
Highway Lighting Protection
The Edco SHAS Series surge protector is a compact device that is designed to be
installed directly within a light pole to protect the sensitive lighting ballast or power
supply from damaging transients. The Edco SHAS Series easily fits into the 3” x 5”
hand hole located at base of the light pole and is wired in series with the load for
the best performance. This series contains a green status LED that will go out in the
event the units protection has been reduced. This enables maintenance personnel
to identify if the unit needs to be replaced.

Installation
1. Check voltage to light to verify that the correct model Edco SHAS Series is being installed.
2. Disconnect power to light pole before beginning installation of surge protector.
3. Remove hand hole panel on pole to gain access to the light wiring.
4. Disconnect wire nuts connecting wire from electrical service to light. Check to ensure no voltage is present.
5. Connect line side of Edco SHAS Series to wire coming from service panel. L1 wire is connected to Line 1 (hot), L2 is
connected to Line 2 or Neutral depending on the voltage.
6. Connect the load side of the Edco SHAS Series to wires going up to the light. L1 is connected to Line 1 (hot), L2 is
connected to Line 2 or neutral depending on the voltage.
7. Connect the Ground wire on the Edco SHAS Series to the ground lug or screw inside the light pole.
8. Carefully push the surge protector and wiring back inside the light pole and attach the the hand hole panel on pole.
9. The Edco SHAS Series comes with a green status LED that indicates that power is applied and that the unit is protecting if
illuminated. If the LED is out there is probably no power coming to the unit but can also can indicate that the unit has
failed and needs to be replaced.
