Introduction to the ANSI/NETA ATS-2009 Standard for Acceptance Testing

This presentation will provide an overview of how NETA and the ATS standard came into existence. The
topic will start with statistics on electrical power equipment failures and the power system reliability
implications. It will review the latest version of NETA (International Electrical Testing Association)
ANSI Standard for acceptance testing of electrical power equipment. A summary of the various
acceptance testing standard sections will be reviewed as well as the most common electrical equipment
categories.
A presentation on the major types of testing techniques, their benefits and limitations will be discussed
utilizing practical examples. Trends in testing technologies reflecting state of the industry will also be
covered.
The audience will be provided with opportunities for questions and answers. The speaker’s style will
make this presentation thought provoking and educational.
Each participant will receive a complimentary electronic copy of the ANSI/NETA ATS-2009 Standard.
Dr. Jean-Pierre Wolff began his studies in Brussels, Belgium and received his BSEE from Heald
Engineering College in San Francisco California. He obtained a MBA from Pepperdine University and
pursued a Ph.D. in Applied Science and Technology at Walden University. He holds several professional
licenses, teaching credential and U.S. patent. Mr. Wolff’s broad professional background in the electrical
power industry includes design, research, consulting, field engineering services, testing technologies and
university instructor. Mr. Wolff, a business manager with Applied Engineering Concepts has presented
numerous continuing education classes at universities and professional meetings. He has authored several
technical papers nationally and internationally, he is a past NETA Board Member and currently on the
ANSI/NETA ATS and MTS ballot pool.
