Optimal quality at lower
operating costs for Cofely
Cofely and GDF SUEZ
GDF SUEZ is one of the largest energy suppliers
in the world. Cofely is GDF SUEZ Energy
Services’ most important brand – one of the six
business units of GDF SUEZ – which has a
workforce of 77,000 employees and which in 2011
had a turnover in excess of 14 billion Euros.
Cofely is a supplier of technological services that
helps its clients to innovate. Development,
manufacture, implementation, maintenance or
project management: operating processes are
optimised with well thought-out technological
total solutions. In 2011 Cofely in the Netherlands
had a workforce of 6,200 and a turnover of 1.1
billion Euros. Cofely has 62 sites in the
Netherlands, at which 16 large-format Canon
printers are in active use. The first Océ
ColorWave 650 in the Netherlands was installed
in Cofely West Nederland’s Zaandam site.
Using the Océ ColorWave 650
The Océ ColorWave 650 in Zaandam is used by
the cost estimating department, with some 15
employees sending printing tasks to the printer.
Here they print out both 2D and 3D working
drawings, which are mostly used during
construction. Various other departments use the
equipment to print out large-format planning
sheets. Professional installation presentations for
customers are also printed out.

High quality and low operational costs
The Océ ColorWave 650 replaces a large-format
inkjet printer and it has been put to work in repro
alongside our large format black and white
multifunction printer the Océ TDS700. The main
driver for acquiring the Océ ColorWave 650 were
its low operating costs combined with optimal
quality. “We have now acquired better quality for
the same price. Most importantly, operating costs
have been reduced due to the low paper and
toner costs for the Océ ColorWave 650,” explains
Richard ter Brugge, who is Facilities manager at
Cofely West Nederland BV
Productive and reliable
High productivity and perfect quality are
important benefits compared with the previous
large-format inkjet printer from Cofely. “The
printer is not just fast, but the quality is also very
good because the lines are printed even sharper
and straighter”, says Rob de Smit, who works at
the facility management department and so is
one of the people who uses the Océ ColorWave
650. The Océ ColorWave 650 uses so-called
CrystalPoint technology, by which Océ
TonerPearls™ – small coloured pellets – are
converted into a gel by heat. This gel can be
jetted onto any kind of paper, where it dries
immediately to a water-resistant finish.
The printer does not use any ink-carrying tubes,
but instead the toner pellets are gravity-fed into
the imaging devices. “Previously we regularly had
problems with blocked ink tubes, but with the
arrival of the Océ ColorWave 650 that is now a
thing of the past The printer hardly ever breaks
down, which is even better for productivity.
It is above all a particularly stylish and quiet
system, and one that is very good to work with”,
says De Smit.
Ahead in sustainable technology
The fact that the Cofely is ISO 14001-certified
indicates that care for the environment always
plays an important role. There is a wish to invest
in responsible, sustainable growth in order to
ensure that the earth can continue to sustain life
for future generations. “The fact that the Océ
ColorWave 650 has very clear sustainable
benefits was therefore an extra plus point that
contributed to a responsible choice”, explains
Ter Brugge.
