Everything you can do with the output current of a VSI you can do in the same way with the output voltage of a CSI ! with identical dynamics …e. g. using the same PWM !! Everything you cannot do with the DC voltage of a VSI you can also not do with the DC current of a CSI ! both are not dynamic at all !! Current Source Inverter (CSI) Technische Universität München In fact there are 2 (!) problematic aspects … … when using CSIs for electrical drives : CSI as well as electrical machine are current sources they have to be decoupled by capacitance(s) … this might cause dynamic problems between between the inductances and the capacitances involved (with electrostatic machines the situation would be better) Current Source Inverter (CSI) Technische Universität München In fact there are 2 (!) problematic aspects … … when using CSIs for electrical drives : The connection of several CSIs at the same DC link is not a reasonable solution (the problem is our way of thinking … not the CSI technology) … the combination must be done by serial connection instead of parallel connection … however, there is no series of electrical machines based on currents instead of voltages (e. g. 400 V) Technische Universität München Thank You !!!
