IESNA requirements
Ž Horizontal Illuminance needed from Title 24 requirements: 30
lux (3fc)
Ž People need to be able to see what they are reading or writing
on the task planes.
Ž Vertical Illuminance needed on VDT screens: 30 lux (3fc)
Ž To be able to read a book held vertically or placed on a
horizontal surface. Correct illuminantion on computer surfaces is
also critical, that is why vertical illumannce in this area is
important.
Miory Kanashiro
Lighting/Electrical
Title 24
Ž Allowable power density for a computer room is 1.3
W/sqft according to Title 24.

Design Approach for interior
Ž With this quote in mind:
Ž "The future belongs to those who believe in the
beauty of their dreams."
~Eleanor Roosevelt, American First Lady
Ž Create an environment filled with MAGIC and FAIRY-TALE
stories.
Ž Children and Adults should all WANT to the Library and read
a book.

Ž Creates warm, cozy feeling
Ž People will forget about problems and focus on reading.
Miory Kanashiro
Lighting/Electrical
Children’s Circulation
Ž Provide even distribution of light
Ž Use light fixtures with a clean look
Ž Indirect/direct lighting on top of shelves
Ž Lighting that does not produce shadows in isles
Ž Lighting for shelves should be adequate for reading
books and documents
