We provide efficiency, safety and reliability
on board on the high seas
Efficient interaction of all shipping systems with one another is the main task of the ship
suppliers. This includes, for example, high-performance motors, ventilation systems optimally designed to suit demands, a reliable energy supply and an intelligent stabilizer
system. These also include a whole host of other systems that have to perform important
tasks. Ships sail around the whole world with reliable, high-performance energy distribution systems and UPS systems as well as hydraulic and automation solutions from Eaton.
Our solutions have complied with these maritime requirements
for decades. On container ships with power supplies for cooling containers as well as on passenger liners offering the highest levels of comfort and exclusivity or under the harsh operation conditions on offshore drilling platforms.
The entire system is only as reliable as each individual component. Compliance to standards, directives and approvals recognized worldwide is essential to guarantee the safety of ships,
persons and cargo, and to ensure that the necessary approvals
are forthcoming. We know this fact. We provide shipbuilders
with flexible and certified solutions compliant to recognized
standards and guidelines, for energy supply, protection, distribution and control.
4
In addition to their IEC, CCC and UL/CSA approvals, our products comply with the shipping classifications of renowned shipping classification authorities. The approvals sorted according
to product can be found on the internet at: www.moeller.net/
en/branchen/schiffbau.
Total power protection for the world´s largest cruise line
Eaton supplied the world’s largest and most revolutionary
cruise ship, Oasis of the Seas, with more than 20 uninterruptible power systems (UPS) to protect the ship’s critical systems
and applications. Our double-conversion online UPS units protect a steady flow of power to the ship’s navigation, computer,
emergency lighting and heating/cooling systems as well as its
many restaurants, casinos and theatres. In order to comply
with these demands, Eaton Marine UPS were installed.
Contactors DILM for high-tech bow thrusters
Large yachts or container ships manoeuvre in harbours with the
assistance of bow thruster systems. Electric motors with a
power of up to 1650 KW, switched by Eaton contactors DILM
with vacuum technology, drive the bow thrusters. Designed for
more than 250,000 switching operations, these contactors are
maintenance free for the service life of the ship.
Reliable world class: Windlass / mooring winches
Windlass / mooring winches produced by Towimor comply with
the requirements and safety regulations of all classification
societies. The safe and reliable winches are provided with
power and controlled by Eaton controls and Eaton drive technology. The Eaton PLCs perform very sophisticated control
algorithms and manage, among others,
• Manual and automatic work with two or three steps of automation
• Remote anchor dropping.
Stability control systems – commonplace today for good
reason
Nowadays, no ship leaves the shipyard without a stability control
system. This is for a very good reason, as without these systems
a ship can quickly become top-heavy or heavy at the stern and
can begin to list. This can lead to serious difficulties: The efficiency of the engines is reduced, the performance is curtailed
and passenger comfort will be affected. The stability control systems developed and built by the Rodriguez shipyard are a guarantee for excellent seaworthiness and comfortable navigation,
even at high speeds. Decisive functions in these stability control
systems are performed by Eaton hydraulic systems.

IEC publication 62271-200.
Clink – Integrated Motor Control System
Clink is a microprocessor-based automation system with individual control units for each motor and feeder circuit within a
Capitole 40 switchboard. All units execute an extensive range
of protection, monitoring and control functions. In addition,
serial communication is possible between the motor control
center and other systems e.g. Distributed Control System
(DCS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System
(SCADA) and Engineering Work Station (EWS).
ARCON – Arc Fault Protection System
Eaton’s arc-fault protection system ARCON is used very successfully in low-voltage switchgear systems. In addition to
detecting the arc fault it also “quenches” it. The quenching unit
generates a short-circuit causing the voltage to drop-out and
quench the arc within 2 ms. This guarantees protection of persons and systems.

Discover our products, which reliably control and switch all types of electrical ship drives.
On deck and below deck: Where we control,
ships propulsion systems are safely on the move.
Auxiliary drives are important units for ship operation in addition to the main drive and
propulsion systems. These include, for example, deck mounted equipment such as
winches and cranes, manoeuvring drives and other drive systems required for ship based
equipment.
These drives are generally switched and controlled on a distributed basis. In addition to the capability to work intelligently
together, the quality of the components used is a fundamental
requirement for minimal downtimes and a long service life, and
thus for overall smooth operation of the ship.
Eaton develops products to international standards. Each new
product is subject to a comprehensive range of tests at our test
laboratories.
For this reason, control of auxiliary drives is subject to stringent
safety demands. Switchgear from Eaton has been tried and
tested for many years in maritime applications and complies
fully with the safety demands.
For example, our contactor DILM has been developed especially for switching higher currents. The contactors feature electronically controlled actuator systems and are built for currents
above 580 A with vacuum technology. This allows switching of
propulsion units for the bow thrusters or winch drives at up to
2600 A.
Further applications on deck are the hoisting systems. The
XC Modular PLCs has proven itself in the control of hoist
drives. Additional modules are used for position recognition
and measure the speed of crane jibs.
Everywhere that drives are manually controlled, our rotary
switch T or switch-disconnector P deliver high levels of performance. They are characterised by their high performance in
control panels or installed as switches in enclosures for use on
deck.
