MCB’s - Advantages
Five good reasons to appreciate
the GE Power Controls miniature circuit breakers
A
- Line protection
- People protection
2
1. Total protection
GE Power Controls MCB’s provide the best answer to the obligation of circuit protection.
They give comprehensive protection to circuits against:
– Overload currents (0.5A to 125A)
– Short-circuit currents (3000 up to 50000 A)
– Earth fault currents (30mA up to 1000mA) - combined with add-on RCD’s
– The handle being sealable or equipped with padlock bracket avoids dangerous operation changes
(ON / OFF)
– The handle provides a clear indication of the contact position:
OFF: a green line is visible
ON: a red line is visible
– Top and bottom protection caps give save installation facilities
– Sealing accessories for top and bottom connections allow protection of original wiring
– Adequate printing of all data on the front provides long-term identification
2. Total quality
– The MCB’s are able to accomplish the line protection for more than 10,000 times, by a simple
manual, or motor operated reset
– The quality of the shells can cope with the hardest ambient circumstances (-25°C to +55°C)
– All MCB’s are current limiting MCB’s, the let-through energy being reduced far below
the standard limits. Energy limiting class: 3 (not for Series NE3000)
– The low let-through peak-currents ensure the long life-time of the contacts of isolators or
loadbreak switches upstream
– The emission of ionised gases are limited to the severest restrictions (35 mm grid distance)
3. A wide range
GE Power Controls offers:
– MCB’s for household in accordance with:
IEC 898 - B, C and D tripping characteristics
– MCB’s for industry in accordance with:
IEC 947-2 - instantaneous tripping 3-5 In, 5-10 In, 10-20 In
– Add-on RCD’s in accordance with: IEC 1009 - BS 4293
4. Stock reducing system
The residential and industrial markets are covered by four appropriate series of MCB’s:
Series E, Series C, Series G, Series H.
Their external advantages allow the consumer to extend the MCB at any time with:
– A wide range of add-on RCD’s / people protection
– Five types of display contacts
– Shunt trip releases
– Accessories
5. Time saving connections
Insulated or non insulated busbar systems with maximum connection possibilities,
can be very fast put on the top or bottom terminals of the MCB’s.

Box terminal delivered in open position IP20.
Suitable for 2 copper cables of the same section from 1 up to 25mm2.
Screw combined cross and slot head, M5.
Suitable for pin type busbar systems.
Arc chamber
The arc chamber exists of 9 special shaped plates.
(only for Series E)
Electromagnet
Equipped with a plunger for instantaneous opening of the contacts.
The combination of the magnet, the arc guide 8 and the arc chamber 3
ensures a high breaking capacity,a high selectivity and a long life.
Handle
0 (OFF) position: green line visible.
I (ON) position: red line visible.
Sealable in 0 and I position.
The trip-free mechanism anables the opening of the contacts in case
of an electrical fault even when the handle is locked or held in the I (ON)
position.
The MCB is an isolator (IEC 408) due to his secure interruption.
Fixed contact
Moving contact
The neutral closes earlier and opens later than the line contacts,
protecting the load for 400V line voltages.
Arc guide
The arc guide is connected with the bimetal.
In case of high currents (short-circuit), the current does not effect or
dammage the bimetal but is deviated throug the magnet and the arc
guide to the arc chamber.
Bimetal
Ensures the breaking in case of small currents (overload).
Incoming terminal (bottom)
The box terminal is delivered in open position.
Suitable for copper cables from 1 up to 25mm2 (or 2 X 10mm2).
Screw combined cross and slot head, M5.
Suitable for pin or fork type busbar systems
IP20 shroud optional (see A.28)

1 Shells
1
Self extinguishing and thermosetting material.
Dimensions :18 mm width per pole, depth: 68mm, hight: 90mm.
14
Outgoing terminal (top)
2 The box terminal is delivered in open position.
Suitable for 2 copper cables of the same section, or 2 different cables
with 1 step of difference. Cable capacity from 0.5 up to 25mm2.
The screw combined cross and slot head, M5.
IP20 shroud for cables Ø 7 mm optional (A.28).
Suitable for pin type busbar systems.
4
3 Arc chamber
The arc chamber exists of 12 special shaped plates.
4 Electromagnet
Equipped with a plunger for instantaneous opening of the contacts.
The combination of the magnet, the blow-out magnet 8 , the arc guide
and the arc chamber 3 ensures the high breaking capacity, high
selectivity and a long life.
5 Handle
0 (OFF) position: green line visible.
I (ON) position: red line visible.
– Sealable in 0 and I position.
– A trip-free mechanism will make the breaker trip in case of an
electrical fault, even when locked or held in the I(ON) position.
– The contacts of the series G6000, Gti10000 have a manual depending closing.
The series G10000, Gti have an independent closing by means of a
spring-operated quick-make mechanism.
The MCB fulfils the requirement of an isolator (IEC 418)
5
6 Fixed contact
7 Moving contact
The neutral closes earlier and opens later than the line contacts,
protecting the load for 400V line voltage.
12
8 Blow-out magnet
13
11
8
9
6
10
7
The blow-out magnet exists of two windings and an arc guide connected
with the bimetal. In case of short-circuit, the current does not effect or
dammage the bimetal but is deviated through the blow-out magnet and
the fixed contact 6 to the arc chamber.
9 Bimetal
Ensures the breaking in case of overload.
10 Incoming terminal (bottom)
A box terminal combined cross and slot head screw, M5 suitable for
copper cables from 1 up to 35mm2 or 2 X 16mm2.
Delivered with half open box an lifted screw head.
When unscrewing the screw, the head lifts. However, on pushing the
screw head down, the screw and the terminal sink.
This allows very easy connection with busbar strips and conductors.
Suitable for pin or fork type busbar systems.
11 DIN-rail clip
10
11
– At the bottom of the breaker.
– Active and passive position.
Active position: normal position on the DIN-rail.
Passive position: de-activated spring effect to remove the MCB easely
from the DIN-rail. Push the clip down, the breaker stays on
the DIN-rail and can be easely removed or positioned.
– A clip can be removed or added to the MCB per pole.
12 Shroud
Provides IP 20 on the incoming terminal.
Standard on series G.The shroud will brake while removing.
13 Sealing plate
To be inserted in the shroud.
Makes the incoming terminal sealable per pole. See A.28.
SERIES G - MCB’S
Influence of ambient temperature
The thermal calibration of the MCB’s was carried
out at an ambient temperature of 30°C.
Ambient temperatures different from 30°C
influence the bimetal and this results in earlier
or later thermal tripping.

SERIES Hti - MCB’s - Product description
Miniature circuit breakers Series Hti
1 Shells
A
Self extinguishing, thermosetting and tropcalised material;
Dimensions: 27 mm width per pole, depth: 80 mm, height: 94 mm.
Advice: if mounted in an enclosure the DIN-rail distance should be 200 mm
22
1
2 Outgoing terminal (top)
Box clamp terminal with spring guide for copper cables up to 70 mm2
IP20 shroud optional. Slot head screw 8 x 0.75
2
3 Arc chamber
4
The arc chamber exists of 11 special shaped plates.
Two incorporated arc guides: one on the fixed contact, one on the
moving contact.
4 Electromagnet
Solenoid operation for instantenous tripping.
The combination of the magnet, the arc guides and the arc chamber
ensures a high breaking capacity, a high selectivity and a long life.
3
5 Handle
Green: contacts open. Red: contacts closed. Sealable in 0 and I position.
The built-in trip-free mechanism will make the breaker trip in case of an
electrical fault even when the handle is locked or held in the I position.
The MCB fulfils the requirements of an isolator (IEC 408)
6
8
6 Fixed contact
7
7 Moving contact
8 Arc guides
5
Under electrical fault conditions the moving contact moves away from
the fixed contact and the resulting arc is guided into the arc chamber.
The connection with the bimetal prevents dammage in case of high
currents (short-circuit) of the bimetal strip.
9
12
9 Bimetal
Ensures tripping in case of small currents (overload).
10 Incoming terminal (bottom)
Identical to the top terminal 2
11
11 DIN-rail clip
10
– At the bottom of the breaker.
– Active and passive position
Active position: secures MCB on the DIN rail
Passive position: by pushing down with a screw driver
The breaker remains on the DIN rail and can be easely positioned
and removed.
– A clip can be removed or added to the MCB per pole.
12 Shroud
To be inserted into the outgoing and incoming terminals.

Influence of ambient temperature
The thermal calibration of the MCB’s was carried out at an ambient temperature of 40°C.
Ambient temperatures different from 40°C influence the bimetal and this results in earlier or later
thermal tripping (see curve).

Shunt trip for remote tripping
of all Series E, NE, G, H & ∆m
Undervoltage release for all Series E & G
The Tele L module makes it possible to remotely switch off the MCB to which
it is coupled by energising the terminals of the module.
An inbuilt contact in series with the coil prevents burn-out damage if the
voltage remains. Manual resetting at the MCB is required.
– The mU module provides tripping of the MCB to which it is coupled.
The operating threshold is lower than 0.6 Un of the breaker
– Nuisance tripping can be eliminated by time-delayed adjusting up to
0.3 sec
– Manual resetting at the MCB is required
