FLASH Outdoor Program Equipment Center Attendant
10-20 hours/week • $9.75/hour

The Outdoor Program is a Student Fee funded organization, whose purpose is to offer and promote safe and environmentally-conscious outdoor recreation. This is accomplished by offering adventure trips, non-credit instruction, team-building programs, equipment rental and the operation of the Climbing Center. The Outdoor Program serves as the informational resource to the PSU community regarding outdoor recreation. This position is open to all current PSU students who are in good academic standing and who are enrolled in at least six undergraduate or five graduate credit hours per term.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide excellent customer service to Rec Center members and guests, both in person and on the phone.
Reserve and check out equipment to renters, keep accurate paper work on each transaction, provide user with general information the equipment.
Handle cash operations, daily deposits, and follow all departmental cash handling procedures.
Communicate correct information to inquiring individuals and enforce rental and program policies.
Check in returned equipment: inspect for damages, hang appropriate equipment overnight to air out, inventory, and return to the storage areas.
Provide customers assistance with registering for trips, researching personal trips/excursions, and general ODP office support as needed.
Keep the Equipment Center clean and safe, including dusting, sweeping floors, and keeping equipment and tools in their proper locations.
Follow detailed opening and closing procedures for the Equipment Center.
Make minor repairs and perform routine maintenance on adventure & sports equipment.
Assist with the annual inventory process.
Carry out special projects, such as building, painting, repair, etc., as assigned by the
Student or Program Coordinators.
Attend all scheduled staff meetings.
Demonstrate the Campus Recreation SPIRIT. o Skills – Mastery of the position responsibilities, protocol and procedures, strong computer skills is preferred. o Passion – Enthusiasm for position, department and wellness o Initiative – Ability to take charge of situations and direct change appropriately o Reliability – Accountable for work schedule and effectively completing tasks o Interaction – Works well with others and engages customers o Trainable – Willingness to be active in the learning opportunities presented
TYPICAL WORKING HOURS
Equipment Center Attendants are expected to work a minimum of 6 hours per week and must be available for work 3 to 4 days per week Monday to Friday between 10 am to 6 pm. Some evenings and weekends are required.

Uniform: Staff shirt, nametag, and appropriate grooming required
MINIMUM QUALIFICAITONS
Maintain minimum enrollment (6 credits for undergraduates, 5 credits for graduates) for three out of four terms in the year
Minimum 2.0 grade point average (undergrad) and 3.0 (graduate) and maintain good academic standing throughout employment

Experience working with diverse populations.

Previous cash handling experience
Awareness of safety concerns and risk management
Ability to trouble-shoot and apply creative solutions
At least one full year remaining at Portland State University.
