Designing a Rubric 1. Task The best tasks are interesting activities that reflect your learning goals and require students to demonstrate their learning. The task description should clearly describe the task and the expectations for students. What is your task? 2. Criteria The criteria are the expected elements that exist within the task. The criteria should be directly linked to the learning goals. What are your criteria for the task? 3. Levels of Performance The levels of performance reflect the varying degrees of quality that might be expected for the task criteria. Three to five levels for performance are recommended. How many levels of performance are expected for your task? What would exemplary performance on this task look like?
