Current Information Page Number in Current Catalog: pages 130; 292 Course Prefix and Number: IPM 7760 Course Title: Global Experience Class Hours_3_Laboratory Hours 0 Credit Hours 3 Prerequisites: Completion of first-year fall and spring semesters. Description: This course incorporates material acquired in first-year courses and applies it to a real-world context through fieldwork, a study trip, or other equivalent means. Students are expected to link theory with practice through a series of public and private sector site visits. Students will explore how scholars and practitioners address the dilemmas of managing policy within an ever-changing global environment. The Global Experience course is mandatory for all students. If a student cannot participate in a planned trip due to extenuating circumstances, that student may petition for approval to substitute a Professional Experience Project in its place. II. Proposed Information (Fill in the changed item) Course Prefix and Number: Nothing – course to be deleted Course Title ___________________________________________ Class Hours______Laboratory Hours______Credit Hours_______ Prerequisites Description III. Justification Students will fold the Global Experience previously required in IPM 7760 into their IPM 7765/Capstone course in order to link theory with practice. Students 2 will still be encouraged to explore how scholars and practitioners address the dilemmas of managing policy within an ever-changing global environment. They will be strongly encouraged to meet this objective while undertaking in depth research or an internship abroad. The Global Experience will now receive greater emphasis and depth of residence abroad. No longer will it be relegated to a Maymester, or two week experience; instead students can opt for a two week, one month or full semester experience. A longer experience abroad is more attractive to potential employers. In addition, the travel options folded into the Capstone provide for greater individual flexibility and student success. 3 VII. COURSE MASTER FORM This form will be completed by the requesting department and will be sent to the Office of the Registrar once the course changes have been approved by the Office of the President.
