Meeting of the 64th General Assembly Of the Student Government Association In UC 307 March 31st, 2010 12:20 p.m. Introduction/Welcome- Vice President Kennedy Campus Community- 1st ten minutes reserved for students with concerns (none were seen) Roll Call- Secretary Seesholtz The following Senators were absent: Senator Marler Senator Traughber (late) Reading of the Minutes Meetings were approved as read EC Reports Secretary Seesholtz reported that the final day to turn in legislation is April 19th at 12:20 p.m. Chief Justice Gaasch reported that elections were going great. He reminded everyone that the library is off limits for campaigning. You can’t tell someone to take off a t-shirt that is campaigning. Residence Halls are also off-limits unless approved by Housing. Vice President Kennedy reported that he is encouraging all the Senators to turn in their legislation very soon. President Drew reported that the weather is good and that he is excited for the weekend. He discussed his presidential veto. He stated that the documents read that the SGA President and Chief Justice must take action by the next Senate meeting on whether or not legislation has been signed. He also reminded Senate that they can override a veto by a 2/3 vote. He stated that legislation doesn’t have a timeline as to when the legislation can be signed and recommended that someone write legislation on these changes. He reported that Senator Joe Marler interviewed for the THEC student member position last week and applauded him for his efforts. He reported that he thought SGA needed to take a stronger stand on issues. He announced the Student Life and Leadership Awards were being held April 14th at 6:00 p.m. Senators will be recognized at this event. He reported that Homecoming will be October 9th and that we will be playing Tennessee Tech. He stated that we need feedback on the theme by April 9th. Monday, he stated that we will be deciding who the next Chief Justice will be and the following week we will decide justices. He then asked if anyone had any questions. Committee Reports (none) Old Business (none) New Business Senate Resolution No. 22 by Senators Johnson and Brewer Announcements (none) Senator Ford reported that he had a legislation idea. He stated that he thought adding a poll to the Onestop website on our current legislation would be a good idea. Advisor Dean discussed Dr. Byrd’s discussion of the room changes that are going to take place over the summer. He stated that the Hispanic Cultural Center isn’t very visible and will gain square feet by changing locations. He stated that the SGA office will be moving to what is currently the All State. The All State will be moving to the C-Store location and the C-Store location will be moved to the SGA office. He reported that the new SGA office will include private offices for the Executive Committee, mailboxes for all SGA members, conference tables as well as a flat screen television. He also discussed that he is currently working with the CTS on Peay Pick-Up revisions. Senator Broady reported that the GOC put a poll on the Onestop website on genres of music for the Homecoming Concert. He reported that the rock genre won. Meeting adjourned at 12:42
