More than 750 students are eligible to graduate with the class of 2006. This year’s valedictorian is Timea Erzsebet Antal of Foothill Ranch, age 30. Antal is a President’s Scholar and member of the international honor society of Phi Theta Kappa. The 30year-old immigrant from Transylvania (in Romania) arrived in the U.S. in 2000 speaking little English. She graduates with a grade point average of 3.93, and has been accepted to UCLA for the fall term. Antal hopes to use her U.S. education to fight global poverty and help those she left behind in Romania. This year’s commencement speaker (determined by student vote) is Tara KubickaMiller of Long Beach, associate professor of speech communication and coach of SCC’s parliamentary debate team since 2004. The team ranked among the top ten community college competitors in the U.S. in 2006. Kubicka-Miller holds a bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona University and a master’s degree from Cal State, Long Beach.
