Approval of Minutes, 5/08/07 NEW BUSINESS 1. Reorganization Request: Assessment Assistant: John Hernandez 2. Status of Turnitin software: Cari Cannon Motion to approve minutes as written (Halvorson/Wirtz) passed unanimously. Second reading. Motion to approve reorganization as presented (Halvorson/Wirtz) passed unanimously. This item has been sent for consideration to the Master TAG committee which is being assembled by Sylvia Letourneau. Sylvia Letourneau will be invited to a council meeting in the fall to discuss, Turnitin, Tegrity, and student e-mails. PROGRAM UPDATES 1. Incorporated Student Council: Meg Rothi a. 2. Continuing Education: Jose Vargas a. 3. Classified Advisory Group: No report. 4. Communications: AnnMarie Librescu Elections have been completed. Officers have been elected and interviews are being conducted for positions not filled. Constitutional amendments passed, including change of name from ASB to ISC (Incorporated Student Council). Student rep fee did not pass. b. Goodie bags will be given out during finals week. c. Budget committee will meet this summer to work with declining income. d. Summer retreat is being planned for incoming officers. e. Banquet: June 7 Last week’s emergency drill went well. A second drill is scheduled this evening at 7:30 p.m. b. Citizenship Fair was held last Saturday. OEC was able to assist 60 individuals completing their application. c. The classified staff enjoyed the cookies provided for classified appreciation week. d. Dean interviews are being conducted Wednesday and Thursday. e. Counselor interviews are next week. a. Both SAC and SCC are going to develop “Career Focus” magazines, each mailing to 50,000 in their service area (August 1 publishing date). This will be used in place of “Rancho Visions.” b. c. As a result of a web site committee meeting, student success stories will be worked in to the opening page of the SCC web page. Public Affairs will move to A-213 after June 1. 5. Technology: Curt Childress a. b. Latest edition of “Technology News” is available on the web. Computers will be replaced in the computer lab, B208, and career ed. Ten classrooms will receive new mediation. 6. Budget/Facilities/Admin Services: Steve Kawa a. Emergency Drill: the drill allowed testing of the speaker system, and where improvements need to be made. Training for the Incident Command group will be coordinated through the insurance company. Budget: The SCC discretionary budget is $246,000 less than last year. Why: 1) increase in salaries and positions; 2) less lottery funds; and, 3) transferring of costs to fixed costs. Facilities: Seville Group has been contracted for construction management. Design phase plan for Fine and Performing Arts center will go to the state, with a 600 seat auditorium. b. c. 7. Curriculum and Instruction Committee: Laura Wirtz CIC voted to abolish advisory reading levels in the schedule and catalog. 8. Academic Affairs: Mary Halvorson a. b. c. 9. Student Success Committee/Student Services: John Hernandez a. b. c. A team is being convened for basic skills training in the fall. Starting to get some assessment data for accreditation. The fall schedule will include “one hour arranged” in certain levels of English which should result in a significant increase in the success of the writing center. d. Inmate education caused the drop in FTES; when employees stop teaching, the process takes a long time to replace the person. The On-Course flex activity has reached the minimum enrollment of 50. Mini-grants will be offered for the entire 2007-2008 year. Student Leadership Institute: twenty students will be receiving their completion certificates. d. Three students are finalists for the student trustee position; two are from SCC. e. Meg Rothi has been elected to the state student senate. 10. Educational Master Plan Committee/Academic Senate: Rosi Enriquez EMP: working to get groups for training for EMP.
