ASG elections – voting this week from Monday through Thursday in the AB Quad.
Candidate forum held May 8.
May 2-4, SCC ASG representatives attended the SSCCC Spring General Assembly.
May 8, SCC ASG passed Smoke Free Campus resolution and sent recommendation to the
President and College Council. President Vazquez provided copies of the ASG and
Classified Hawk resolutions to council members.
Completed distributing spring semester student survey – expect 400 responses.
Last night, SCC ASG senator Paul Garcia was introduced as the new Student Trustee or
2008-2009.


Summer class schedules were distributed to council members.
Evacuation drill is scheduled on Wednesday, May 14, at 10:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

May 6 was the last Classified Hawks meeting for this academic year. Next meeting will
be in September.
New leadership – Angel Hernandez and Yuri Betancourt.
Smoke Free Campus resolution was passed by a majority of those present and sent
forward to the President and College Council.
Wednesday, May 14, is the deadline for classified scholarship applications.




Budget:
 The first reduction from this year’s budget is $407,770, which is approximately 5% of the
SCC budget. This reduction has been completed.
 The 2008-2009 district budget must be approved at the June board meeting, with adoption
at the September meeting.
Safety:
Upgrading some of the networking equipment on campus (summer).
Internet Explorer 7 problems have been addressed.
Contact AnnMarie with input.
 Evacuation drill scheduled at SCC for May 21 at 11:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Facilities:
 LPA presented to the Facilities Committee on the science building, which generated
discussion and possible changes for investigation and consideration.
 Maintenance and Operations building must be complete before the science building to
accommodate the utilities for the science building. The concessions building is a part of
this project.

Held the last meeting of the council this week. Draft of curriculum guidelines is
complete. Looking in to use of curricunet.
May is Check Your Website month. Suggestion to update web staff directory to link to
the staff member’s web page or e-mail address.
Substantive Change Report has been completed for Distance Ed to the ACCJC. The
report will go to the RSCCD board on May 27.
The final draft of the Abbreviated Self Study is in various offices on campus for review
and comment. This draft will go to the board on May 27.
The final Student Success Council meeting of this year was held last week. Student
representative Matan Goldstein was an active member, including polling students for
issues that were addressed by the council.
A request for letters of interest as the Basic Skills Coordinator was sent out by Mary
Halvorson.
CAMP is continuing an active recruitment campaign.
Financial Aid Awareness Day resulted in over 150 students completing a FAFSA.
SCC Financial Aid hosted the Department of Education’s Regulatory and Legislative
Update - Spring 2008 Workshop. Over 130 financial aid colleagues from local
community colleges were in attendance.
Early Decision started last week and continues to be a very positive program for new
students.



Senate will vote on the resolution for a Smoke Free Campus at the next meeting.
Final draft of the Abbreviated Self-Study is being routed to SCC senators.
Rosi thanked Craig Nance and Denise Foley for their assistance to the Distance Ed Task
Force. Task force is working on a tool kit of basic software to enhance projects.

Today, Cari Cannon was recognized by the Orange County Department of Education as
the Community College Teacher of the Year.

May 21, 2:00 p.m. – Classified Appreciation Day, Strenger Plaza
Professor Narges Rabii and the MUN team were recognized at last night’s Board meeting,
and will be recognized later today at the Orange City Council meeting.




The SCC Academic Senate was requested
to address the proposition of a bond to
raise funds and formulate a resolution, if
appropriate.




SAC is also discussing the concept of a smoke free campus.
President Vazquez stated the importance of continued dialog regarding a bond measure to
complete the campus master plan. The board passed a resolution to work with a
consultant to investigate the possibilities of going for a bond using the concept of subdistricts. This could result in SCC or SAC being excluded from the benefits of a
successful bid for a bond with the community.
