COURSE SYLLABUS
ENTREPRENEURSHIP
GRADE 12
This course is designed for seniors so that they will gain an understanding of how to start
a business. It will provide practical applications enabling them to explore business
opportunities and learn how to make informed decisions in our society.
After successfully completing one semester of Entrepreneurship a student will:
1. Investigate the pros and cons of being an entrepreneur.
2. Evaluate opportunities for starting a new business, purchasing an existing
business, or acquiring a franchise.
3. Identify the characteristics of a successful entrepreneur and do a self-analysis.
4. Make various basic marketing decisions for a proposed business.
5. Develop a structure for a small business including a legal form of ownership,
organizational chart, job descriptions, and the role of management.
6. Write a business plan after selecting an enterprise idea, company name, location,
and marketing mix.
7. Decide on product pricing, plan promotion, and people strategies that best suit the
proposed business.
8. Determine the capital needs of a new business including start-up costs, beginning
inventory, and pre-opening expenses.
9. Gain an understanding of the various sources of financing for small businesses.
10. Prepare projected financial statements and do a cash flow analysis for the
proposed business.
METHODS OF EVALUATION:
Students are graded on performance with quizzes, exams, papers, case studies, in-class
projects, oral presentations, and homework assignments. Total points earned are
accumulated and divided by the number of total points possible. The percentage is then
applied to the following grading scale:
90 – 100%
80 – 89 %
70 – 79%
60 – 69%
A
B
C
D
**The semester (final) grade will be the average of both 9-week percentages.
CLASSROOM PROCEDURES:
1. All students will enter the classroom with a positive attitude toward learning.
2. All students will arrive to class on time. If you are tardy to class, you must have a
note from the person who detained you. If you are tardy three times, you will
receive a detention.
3. All students will demonstrate respect for their peers and for their teachers.
4. All students will refrain from the use of walkmans, cell phones, beepers, and
inappropriate language during times.
5. All students will demonstrate 100% effort on all assignments regardless of their
grade value.
6. All students are required to show up for class with the following: Book, pen,
notebook, folder, and calculator.
7. All students are expected to complete their own work. Copying assignments or
test answers from another student will not be tolerated. You will receive ZERO
points for the assignment or test. The student who allows the other person to copy
their work will also receive a ZERO.
8. All students are responsible for making up assignments when absent. It is the
student’s responsibility to make arrangements with the teacher to make up tests.
This can be during a study hall or before school.
