Evacuation Instructions

Upon hearing the Fire/Evacuation Alarm
– Secure immediate personal belongings
– Secure coat, jacket, sweater, etc…
– Secure vehicle keys
Evacuate the building using the nearest exit
 Move a minimum of 200 feet away from all buildings
 Notify an Evacuation Director or Campus Safety Officer
of anyone left in the building or needing assistance
 Be prepared to be outside for a minimum of one hour


Read the State of Washington Emergency Evacuation
Guidelines for Persons with Disabilities
Know the Areas of Refuge in your building(s)
Know all routes of egress from your area
Know how to use your assigned two-way radio
Keep First Aid, CPR and AED certifications current
– Strongly recommended, but not required

Evacuation Director Duties
“Building Clearing”

Clear your assigned area of all personnel
– Offices, classrooms, bathrooms, storage and common areas
– Inform people they are required to leave

Immediately report non-compliant evacuees to
Incident Command
– Be prepared to provide location and physical description of
the individual(s)
Evacuation Director Duties
“Evacuee Assistance”

Identify personnel unable to evacuate
– Move them to an “Area of Refuge” if possible
– Notify Incident Command

 State your location and situation
 State what type of special need exists (wheelchair,
walks with a cane, etc)
 State any immediate life-threatening conditions
Stay with the person until assistance arrives
– SO LONG AS IT IS SAFE TO DO SO
– Notify Incident Command immediately if you must leave
Evacuation Director Duties
“Crowd Control”

Move all personnel away from the buildings
– Minimum 200 feet
– Keep main roadways cleared
– Immediately notify Incident Command of unauthorized
personnel attempts to enter the facilities


Maintain radio awareness and listen for updates
Personal Safety
– Do not argue with non-compliant personnel
– Contact Incident Command for assistance
– Do not put yourself in harms way
