May 18, 2016 International Baccalaureate High Year Level Year 2 Students of 2016-2017: Your 2016 summer reading assignment is to read and thoroughly annotate Gabriel Garcia-Marquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude. It is largely regarded as the Noble Prize winner’s greatest work. At 417 pages in the most common edition there is tremendous density of storytelling for the reader to absorb, although the book is easy to read and generally a student favorite. I highly recommend you pace your reading of this book carefully. A thoroughly annotated copy from each student will earn a summative grade and there will also be a summative reading comprehension test on the first day that class meets, which will be either August 4th or 5th, depending the schedule set by the administration. I will be available for help and discussion facilitation this summer under a forum on itsLearning under the SFHS Student Group. If you have any questions before the end of the school year, please feel free to come see me or email me at mthompson@forsyth.k12.ga.us . Sincerely, Mr. Thompson IB Literature HL 2nd Year Teacher
