International Baccalaureate High Year Level Year 1 Students of 2016-2017:
Your 2016 summer reading assignment is to read and thoroughly annotate Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man.
At 580 pages, this is a beast of a book, not only for the page count but also for the brilliant ideas that are
presented. You will want to spend time with this one; therefore, my suggestion would be to begin five to
six weeks before school starts. You do not want to minimize the significance of Ellison’s ideas and how
he delivers them.
A thoroughly annotated copy will be due and a reading comprehension test will be given on the first day
of school. Each assessment will be a summative grade.
I will be available for help and discussion facilitation this summer under a forum on itsLearning under
the SFHS Student Group. TBA.
