Cell Model Project
Name:______________________________________________ Due Date: ________________________
The purpose: The purpose of building a cell model is to provide you with a hands-on activity that will
enhance understanding of the structure and function of cell structures.
How it all works… You will be choosing either a plant cell or an animal cell. The model will show the cross
section of the cell you choose. You may build a 3D model or you can complete it on cardboard/foam board
(but it must still be 3D). You will have to include all of the organelles that we talked about in class and come
up with any objects that could represent these organelles. Label your organelles. Use your imagination!!
When are we building the cell models? You will be building the cell models in class. You will have 4 class
periods to build a neat and clear cell with labels. This project is not to be taken home.
Supplies: The more obscure and random the better- be creative. All supplies are to come to school in a
brown shopping back with your name on it. Place bags, folded over, on the side of the classroom.
First: Pick a plant or an animal cell. __________________________________
Second: Are you making a 3D model or a poster 3D model? ________________________________
Third: Materials. What type of items are you going to use for the organelles? Fill in the blank lines with the
materials you are using.

Fourth: Requirements.

If you are doing a 3D model, you are on your own! However you would like to build it is fine with me.
If you are doing a poster, you MUST use cardboard or foam board. Regular poster board is too flimsy. AND it
must be no smaller than 18 inches by 24 inches.
No Jell-O models!! 
Bring all of your supplies on Wednesday, Sept 30th or before! I can store them in my room.
I have colored pencils, markers, and some scissors. You might want to think about bringing your own scissors
and glue (tacky glue or a glue gun might work best).
You must have a title (at the minimum, ‘plant cell’ or ‘animal cell’ and your name on the project. It can be
typed or handwritten.
Homework: Fill out the front of this sheet for class on Tuesday, Sept 29th.
