Comm. Studies Audience Unit: Polite Conversation Social 10 Points (based on effort, appropriateness, and overall engagement) The goal for this social is to make polite conversation by reading your audience and actively listening! Tips: Engage in conversation by asking questions and sharing information about yourself. Let the speaker know that you are interested and listening to them. Know your audience and use that as a platform for conversation (Examples: How is your lacrosse season going so far? Last I heard you were going to Hope College, is that still true? What did you think about last night’s episode of Game of Thrones?) Be aware of your physical presence. Don’t “block people out” of the conversation with your body. Guidelines: 1. Conversational groups cannot exceed over 5 people. 2. Must engage in 3+ conversations (Not just actively listening, but actually have a conversation) 3. Politely excuse yourself from the conversation a. “It was great talking with you. Good luck with the rest of your season!” b. “Well I am sure whatever college you attend you will make the best of it.” c. “Perhaps we can chat after next week’s episode.” You as the SPEAKER: Name of the person(s) you conversed with: Summary of the conversation: How did the conversation flow? Was it easy or difficult to maintain conversation? What would you do differently? How did the conversation end?
